Master Plan

Strategic Plan and Site Master Plan to Guide the next Decade of Ministry

2 of 26

What is Strategic and Site Master Planning?

Strategic Planning

  • What does the best version of JKR look like?
  • Does our program align with our mission?

Site Master Planning

  • Do our facilities support and enable us to meet our mission?
  • Are our facilities designed to meet the needs of our community? Mission Presbytery? Local Community? Broader community?

Results: 3 Strategic Initiatives and 10-12 year site plan with new buildings

Why is it needed?

  • Day Camp growing. Drop off through camp not sustainable
  • The ‘double wide’ Ranch House was a ‘temporary solution’ in 2014
  • Parent feedback “Wish all cabins had AC. Summers are getting hotter each year.”
  • Duplexes used every weekend, screen cabins rarely
  • Dining Hall in a floodplain and bursting during summer use

Why now?

We are in a healthy position

  • Stable, excellent staff
  • Mostly full programs and retreat calendar
  • Conservation Easement and Endowment created
  • Consultant feedback. Place of strength not crisis
  • We could continue to operate as we are now without major change for maybe 10 years but at some point without change we will see a decline and then it will be too late
  • Old infrastructure. Water pipes, 12 septic systems!

Strategic/Programmatic Initiatives

    • Partner with organizations that serve groups that are “vulnerable” or have traditionally less access to a place like JKR. E.x. Camp Braveheart
    • Develop robust leadership development pathway to grow not only camp staff but the next generation of Christian leaders.
    • Intentional intersection of nature and God’s creation in programs and experiences.
