What is Devotion?

  • Attachment (Moha) - clinging to the transient
    • Turns attachment into dedication, while offering everything to God.

  • Everyday offer worship at the altar.
  • Worship with full understanding of the rituals’ significance.

Chapter 51: Types of Devotion�Two ways of walking the nine-fold path.�

The Baby Monkey way

Devotion with self effort (Bhakthi

  • The young monkey clings to its mother through its own effort and grip.
  • The devotee holds on to God through disciplined practice and striving.
  • An example: Prahlada
  • Includes japa, dhyana, study of spiritual literature, seva, etc.
  • The kitten is carried by the mother — it lets go entirely and is borne in trust.
  • The devotee surrenders completely and is carried by grace.
  • Acceptance without anxiety.
  • An example: Lakshmana
