Computational thinking is often associated with computers and coding, but it is important to note that it can be taught without a device (Unplugged coding) and focuses on the thought process of thinking, not just technology or Robots.

What is Computational Thinking?

Computational thinking is a method that breaks down a problem into simpler steps to make it easier to solve. It develops problem solving and critical thinking skills in all aspects of learning.

It is often broken into 4 parts

(but not as a Step by Step process)

  1. decomposition
  2. pattern recognition
  3. Abstraction
  4. Algorithms

Imagine if we had a problem of how to build a lego car? How could the Computational thinking steps help us?

Decomposition

students to break down complex problems into smaller, simpler problems.

Pattern recognition

students look for similarities & Trends to make connections in a problem

Abstraction

Students identify important information while ignoring unrelated or irrelevant details.
