Not enough students are aware of alternative learning opportunities like TedX
Too many students view discovery opportunities as just for people who want to start a business. They don’t see how it can change the way they think in useful ways.
There aren’t enough discovery opportunity classes in engineering and the sciences.
We need to have more interdisciplinary learning opportunities, especially ones that involve engineering.
Many of the innovation and entrepreneurship groups struggle with involved members and officers. Students don’t want to work hard for their goals.
We need to come up with a better system for allowing students to access the makerspace, very few can use it as of now.
We need or change our curriculum (in every major) so that it encourages more experimentation and innovation.
There’s an attitude of “I don’t need to really learn this, my job will teach me what to do”. Especially in engineering.
There aren’t enough women in 3 Day Startup, or entrepreneurship groups in general.
There aren’t many student startups coming out of Tech. So recruiting for Kinetic or other programs can be difficult.
Of the student startups that do exist, some students are still worried about others stealing their idea (or taking equity) so they don’t use campus resources.
There needs to be more good ideas and startups coming from students. It would help build the community to have more involvement.
Students view the innovation hub as too far away. Not enough public transportation options for it.
The resources available for student startups and projects need to be marketed more widely (and effectively).
We need an interdisciplinary minor in entrepreneurship and innovation.
We need dorms for driven students that give them additional opportunities to learn and network based on their academic results and community involvement.
We need the university to place more of an emphasis on innovation in engineering. It isn’t enough to talk to businesses students about it.
In some departments there’s a great deal of inconsistency between professors, the curriculum should be more deliberately designed.
We need to fix the pipeline for students so that we lose fewer as they go from experimentation to pursuing. Providing easy access to support might help with this.
