WHO ARE WE?

  • A design team with ~ 100 undergraduate engineering students
  • Provide an avenue for McGill undergraduate engineers to execute the engineering design process with a hands-on challenge
  • Compete yearly in the USA against > 100 other universities
  • High performing design team
    • 8th overall in Baja SAE Ohio (2023)
    • 1st in EDN Endurance (2023)
    • 3rd in Baja SAE S&T event (2022)

HOW DO WE DESIGN OUR CAR?

  • 33% of these steps require some form of testing/data acquisition. Therefore, a reliable data acquisition tool is critical for our team’s design & eventually performance

OUR CURRENT/ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION

“Homemade Arduino DAQ system”

  • Pros:
    • Cheap
    • Provides students with a learning opportunity
    • More flexible than an OEM component
    • Light
  • Cons:
    • Bugs/issues can take weeks to figure out (with no “customer support”
    • Not easy for all students to understand (especially for those only looking to collect data as opposed to learn how an Arduino works)
    • Currently not functioning correctly
      • Resulting in a loss of critical design and testing data

  • Does build-in data analysis (better than some Arduino versions)
