WHY- we needed to change, away from traditional schooling, our kids needed more, to better prepare themselves

changes were coming to our district and we wanted to ensure the right questions were driving their curriculum decisions

we were seeing our students needed more. Scores aren’t what parents send their children to school for but they do expect high scores

we wanted our students to learn how to think

HOW- our leadership, steps along the way, changing paradigms in ourselves and our teachers

WHAT- what our schools look like, what it’s turned out to be

The goals in our district’s strategic plan are greatly aligned with preparing our students to be college and career ready. This goal needs to be supported K-12, and we know that the workforce for which we are preparing them will require the ability to communicate, collaborate, create, and think critically. The use of technology greatly supports these skills and fosters opportunities for students to be ready for the workforce of the present and future.

Partnership for 21st century learning

We knew big changes were coming for our staff and they were coming fast. We wanted to provide our teachers with the knowledge to help them develop their own why.

�At LC, PD is not created to change beliefs, but rather behaviors that will lead to student success which then changes a teacher’s belief.

Needed something for our teachers to stand on and connect all of their new knowledge with that allowed

The Framework presents a holistic view of 21st century teaching and learning that combines a discrete focus on 21st century student outcomes (a blending of specific skills, content knowledge, expertise and literacies) with innovative support systems

Rainbow Arches - These sections represent 21st century student outcomes.

The Pools - These pieces represent 21st century learning support systems.

Regarding the Learning Outcomes, we chose to make a focus on Learning and Innovation Skills. This piece of the framework emphasizes the importance of deeply embedding the 4 C’s...collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving, and creativity and innovation.

In some ways, the Missouri Learning Standards are the science of learning (content), and the P21 skills are the art of learning (design). Working together, they can create deeper learning opportunities and "real world" educational experiences.
