Why Set Rules and Routines?

Setting rules for yourself-

  • Complete projects two days before the due date
  • Start studying for tests one week in advance
  • Finish essays three days before they are due

Don’t multitask

  • Studies show that “multitaskers” spend 50% more time trying to complete a task
  • Focus on one assignment at a time
  • Attend to the next task/assignment once you have completed the first

Why color code and label EVERYTHING?

  • Things, not people can be labeled
  • Visual clues such as colors help our brains to organize quickly
  • IE: “Blue folder for math work requires a Blue notation in my organizer letting me know about math homework. projects or test due dates.”

  • Complete large projects in smaller more manageable parts
  • Discuss how have we done this in our own academic careers and in our lives?

Methods for note taking

  • Cornell method: Recording only key points and questions, summarize main ideas at the button of each page
  • Mind map method: Draw bubbles and lines, label them with key points to connect similar ideas
