ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਾਣੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਡੱਬਾ ਖੋਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੂੰਹ ਬਣਾਇਆ, "ਔਹੋ! ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਂਗਣ ਦੀ ਸਬਜ਼ੀ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਨਹ ਖਾਂਦੀ।"

ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਡੱਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਂਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।

ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਮੰਮੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂਡਲਜ਼ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸੀ। "ਨੂਡਲਜ਼ ਤਾ ਕੀੜੀਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ,"ਘਰ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੋਲੀ।"

ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿੰਨ ਮੰਮੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੂੰਗਫ਼ਲੀ-ਮਟਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਪਮਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ।

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਮੂੰਗਫ਼ਲੀ ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਲਈ।

"ਇਡਲੀ ਖਾਣੀ ਹੈ?" ਮੰਮੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਸੀ। ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ "ਖੇਡਣ ਲਈ ਵਧੀਆ ਰਹੇਗੀ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਖਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ।"

ਕੰਧ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਕੀੜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਬੀ ਕਤਾਰ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, "ਕੀਰਤ, ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾ ਰਹੀ?"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਪਸੰਦ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ।

ਮੈਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੀ।" "ਠੀਕ ਕਿਹਾ। ਭਲਾਂ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।" ਕੀੜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਂ

ਮਿਲਾਈ।

ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਕੀੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਖੰਭ ਅਲੱਗ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, "ਇਹ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੋ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਆਦ ਹੈ।"

"ਛੀ- ਛੀ! ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਇਹ ਗੰਦਾ, ਸਾੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੀੜਾ", ਇਹ ਕਿਹ ਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਬਗ਼ੀਚੇ ਵੱਲ ਭੱਜ ਗਈ।

ਉਥੇ ਰੰਗ ਬਿਰੰਗੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਤਿੱਤਲੀਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਫੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਤੇ ਮੰਡਰਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।

ਸੰਤਰੀ ਰੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲ਼ੀਆਂ ਚਿੱਟੀਆਂ ਲਾਈਨਾਂ ਵਾਲ਼ੀ ਇੱਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਿੱਤਲੀ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਇਆ,

"ਕੀਰਤ! ਕੀ ਹੋਇਆ? ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ?"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਉਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, "ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਪਸੰਦ ਹਨ, ਨਾਂ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ। ਮੈਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੀ।"

"ਠੀਕ ਕਿਹਾ। ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।" ਤਿੱਤਲੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਂ ਮਿਲਾਈ।"

“ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀ ਲਵੋ? ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ।"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਲਗਾਈ, ਪਰ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ।

"ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਰਸ-ਫਸ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਗ਼ਲ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ?"

ਇਹ ਕਿਹ ਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵੱਲ ਭੱਜ ਗਈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਦਾ ਦਰਖ਼ਤ ਸੀ।

ਉਸ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਂ ਬੈਠਾ ਸੀ। ਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਮਾਰੀ,"ਕੀਰਤ ! ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ?"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਉਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,"ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਪਸੰਦ ਹਨ ਨਾਂ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ। ਮੈਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੀ।"

"ਠੀਕ ਕਿਹਾ। ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।" ਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਮੀ ਮਿਲਾਈ।"

ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਲੈ

ਲਵੋ।" ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਅੱਧਾ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਚੂਹਾ ਕੀਰਤ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

"ਛੀ- ਛੀ! ਕਿੰਨਾ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣਾ ਚੂਹਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖੋ," ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਕੀਰਤ ਭੱਜ ਗਈ।

ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਕੰਧ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਖੜੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

ਉਥੇ ਕੁਝ ਚਿੜੀਆਂ ਬੈਠੀਆਂ ਸਨ।

ਉਹ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ,"ਕੀਰਤ! ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ?"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ,"ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਪਸੰਦ ਹਨ ਨਾਂ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ। ਮੈਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੀ।"

"ਠੀਕ ਕਿਹਾ। ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।" ਚਿੜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਂ ਮਿਲਾਈ।"।

"ਆਹ ਲਓ, ਬਾਜ਼ਰੇ ਦੇ ਦਾਣੇ, ਬਹੁਤ ਨਮਕੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੋਸ਼ਿਟਕ ਹਨ।"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਾਣਾ ਚੱਬਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਬਣਾਇਆ,

"ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਦਾਣੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਹਨ।"

ਇੱਕ ਨਰਮਿਦਲ ਚਿੜੀ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ,"ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਕੀੜੇ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਰੁਕੋ।"

"ਨਾ- ਨਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ,"ਇਹ ਕਿਹ ਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਭੱਜ ਗਈ।

ਉਹ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ।

ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਗਾਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਘਾਹ ਚਰ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਬੋਲੀ,"ਕਿਉਂ ਕੀਰਤ, ਸਾਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾ ਰਹ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ?"

"ਠੀਕ ਕਿਹਾ, ਪੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੈਂਗਣ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕਦਮ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਘਾਹ ਤੋੜਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੀਂਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।”

“ਘਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੋ। ਮਜ਼ਾ ਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ!”

“ਕਿੰਨੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਿਕਸਮਤ ਹੋ ਕੀਰਤ, ਕਾਸ਼ ਮੈਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ।"

ਕੀਰਤ ਨੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ,"ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਘਾਹ- ਫੂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣਾ।”

“ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਬੰਦ ਹੈ। ਫੁੱਲ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।”

“ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਵੇ।"

ਇਹ ਕਿਹ ਕੇ ਕੀਰਤ ਭੱਜਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਿਪਸ ਆ ਗਈ।

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਝੱਟ ਪੱਟ ਆਪਣਾ ਡੱਬਾ ਖੋਿਲਆ।

"ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਾਂਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਂਗਣ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਵਧੀਆ ਹਨ।"

ਇਹ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਲਦੀ-ਜਲਦੀ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਣ ਲੱਗੀ।
