Hello, everybody,

Over the course of the next week (and beyond, if needed) we’re going to try to continue to work on English language arts (ELA) skills.

English 10 and English 12: you were both finishing up research projects; those will be put on hold for the foreseeable future. Instead, we will read novels that we have not yet had the opportunity to read. I chose novels that are available for free online and will provide questions that you can answer for feedback on your understanding of the book.

AP Literature and Composition: I was already feeling confident in your skills, which is why we were ready to move on to preparation for the literary argument essay. We’re going to put all of that work on hold because the College Board is modifying the test to be a 45 minute free response question (FRQ) to be completed online (computer, phones, etc). This will most likely be a poetry or prose prompt; the College Board promises more information April 3. For now, College Board has been doing daily AP videos on YouTube for every AP class. I will have you watch these videos for enrichment and complete the assignments linked to the videos for feedback. Collegeboard.org has been experiencing some issues, so for now we will work with the assignments from AP Live on YouTube and Google.

  • English 12 - Common Core State Standards

RL.11-12.5 Analyze how an author's choices concerning how to structure specific parts of a text (e.g., the choice of where to begin or end a story, the choice to provide a comedic or tragic resolution) contribute to its overall structure and meaning as well as its aesthetic impact.

RL.11-12.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.

The College Board will be using any skills through Unit 7. Use the Unit MCQs to assess skills that need to be supported and improved upon.

Hello everybody,

This week I have created a Google Classroom and invited you all to join it. If you have a problem accessing the Classroom, please contact me and I will email you the code.

English 10 and English 12: You are both going to continue your reading of the novels To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies. I am making a change to the question format this week. I want you to choose just two questions from each chapter and write a 2-3 sentence answer. This week we are focusing on fewer questions, but better answers.

AP Literature and Composition: Your AP Literature and Composition test will occur on May 13 at 1 P.M. You can complete the test on a computer, tablet, your phone, etc (anything with online access). The test will take 45 minutes and will consist of a PROSE prompt. We will continue to use the practice that College Board is providing because they are trying to build up the skills they think you will need for the test. The College Board AP Live classes have shifted to prose analysis, so I will have you continue to watch those videos and complete the assignments in the Google Classroom.

From College Board: Encourage your students to review their contact information. We're communicating with the AP community primarily by email. To ensure your students are receiving critical information, make sure they log in to My AP to remind themselves of the email address and cell phone number they’ve asked the College Board to use. If they want, students can change how we contact them. Two days before each exam, students will receive an email with a personalized e-ticket that will include their eight-character AP ID code. If a student still doesn’t receive the email, they’ll be able to access their e-ticket directly through My AP.

Hello everybody,

This week we will continue to use Google Classroom. I will post assignments on Google Classroom according to these lesson plans..

Seniors: You’ve made it to your final week of schoolwork. There are a few things you should make sure you are set with:

First: Check your fines - you can pay fines at this link https://il-rockford.intouchreceipting.com. If you are a first time user, your username is your Home Access Center username. I believe you will set your own password.

Second: keep checking the ERAB Fanpage on FaceBook for updates about textbook returns and locker pick up.

Third: Be aware that graduation is virtual this year. Your graduation will occur on June 2 at 4 P.M. Diploma pick up will occur on June 3. Stay tuned for more information.

FINALLY: Log into any service (College Board, Google, etc) and update your email address to something other than your RPS email. You may still want to access SAT scores after you graduate, but if your College Board account is set up with RPS email, you won’t be able to. Your RPS email is discontinued once you graduate.

CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hello everybody,

This week we will continue to use Google Classroom. I will post assignments on Google Classroom according to these lesson plans.

English 10: Continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird and completing the chapter study guides.

You have two weeks of school left. The schedule that I made at the beginning of this remote learning included three days in June because that was what the original schedule called for; now that you are finishing on May 29, you will have the last three chapters from the book that aren’t covered in the current reading schedule. I thought about revising the schedule and including those three chapters and study guide questions, but in the end decided to give you a break.

If you have been reading along with the schedule so far, I hope that you will finish the final three chapters on your own. The ending of the book does a great job of revisiting themes and wrapping things up. I am not assigning the chapters or questions for those chapters, but you’ve made it this far, please finish the book if you can.

Hello everybody,

This week we will continue to use Google Classroom. I will post assignments on Google Classroom according to these lesson plans.

English 10: Continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird and completing the chapter study guides.

You have one week of school left.
