Understanding Imperative Sentences
Objective: Students will learn what imperative sentences are and how to use them to give commands, make requests, and offer instructions.
IMPERATIVE SENTENCES
An imperative sentence gives a command and instructs someone to do something.
PURPOSE
They typically begin with the base form of a verb and do not use a subject.
Example:
"Close the door."
“Open your book”
“Wait for your turn”

Sit down

Practise with please
Adding “please” makes a request more polite.
Close the door.
Please, Close the door.
Close the door, please
Activity
Have students practice saying commands with “please” in pairs. They can take turns giving commands to each other.

Look at the pictures and try to create sentences
Let’s
“Let’s” is used to suggest doing something together.
Examples:
“Let’s go to the park.”
“Let’s read a story.”

Example: Let’s go to the park.
Let’s not go to the park.
Practice Writing ( Group work)
Ask students to write their own commands using “please” and suggestions with “let’s.”

Write 2 commands with “please.”
Write two suggestions using “let’s.”
