Challenge Goal

Submit an original 3 to 5-minute video educating the public on UCR research. Should be targeted to a non-expert audience.

Submissions are due by November 12th, 2021.

Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony held on December 3rd, 2021.

Eligibility

UCR student researchers! Any student currently, formerly, or simply interested in STEM research going on at UCR.

Graduates

Undergraduates

  • Enrolled UCR student
  • Over the age of 18
  • Groups limited to 3 people
  • One submission per person/group
  • Multiple groups from the same lab are ok

  • Submission: Nov 12th, 2021
  • Awards Ceremony: Dec 3rd, 2021 @ 4:30 PM

Prizes

  • 1st: $1,000 and a subscription to Nature.
  • 2nd: $500
  • 3rd: $250
  • Up to 4 additional $250 prizes will be awarded by the judges
    • categories could be "people's choice," "most creative video," or "coolest research project"

Graduate and undergraduate prizes will be judged and awarded separately

Video Content

  • Follow and promote EH&S safety guidelines
  • Topic is a STEM research project at UCR
  • Target a non-specialist audience
  • 3-5 minutes in duration.
  • English language
  • Respect all featured people, places, things
  • Videos not limited to types of content
  • High resolution (HD 1280×720 or higher) format

Video must include:

  • Who you are and your research group
  • The university
  • Necessary fundamental concepts and history
  • The applications of your research
  • References cited (may use description)
  • Sponsor logos + Thank you

  • Follows content guidelines
  • Accurate submission information
  • Permission to use any shown locations
  • Video description with Department, Research Group, and names of ALL participants
  • Submit via
    • unlisted video link to our Google Form
    • OR email the video file to scicommucr@gmail.com. Use file name of Department_LastName_FirstName and "Video Competition 2021" in the subject line.
