CASE STUDY: CONSULTING AND LIFE XT

Prioritizing performance and wellbeing through partnership with LifeXT by Mindful

Context:

In Big Four Consulting firms, people are the product. Their ability to deploy the smartest, most innovative and engaged consultants is how they win in the market. That being said, the stress of constant travel, pressure to deliver, and 24/7 access to technology have made a large majority of their employees overwhelmed and headed toward burn out. Recognizing a strategic need to invest in talent management, one of the major players in the consulting business challenged LifeXT by Mindful to partner with them to refresh their work force and recharge their talent.

FAST FACTS:

  • 65% of U.S. employees reported work as their top stressor1

  • People who experience high levels of workplace stress have a 10% - 40% higher risk of heart disease compared to people who did not. 2

  • Annual total expenditures of work-related stress and poor mental health (depression and anxiety) have been estimated at $190 billion and $211 billion respectively - half of that is borne by employers due to lost productivity 3

The Program:

Life XT distills years of research performed by leading experts in the field of neuroscience and wellbeing into manageable, attainable steps that can be taken to improve wellbeing. These insights are overlaid onto the unique life experiences of each individual who receives regular, customized, one-on-one coaching – recognized by the American Heart Association as more effective than technology-based solutions alone.2 During coaching sessions, participants learn how to apply the tools for wellbeing to specific situations and are held accountable for achieving their goals.

“This should be required. The improvement in wellbeing strongly correlates to leadership skills and ability to handle stress. If we care about those things, we must care about our people.”

- Senior Consultant

The Outcome:

The results of the program were an obvious success. Unlike many wellbeing programs that evaluate only qualitative data, LifeXT is grounded in science and measures results in a quantifiable and scientifically validated assessment.

Forward Focus:

Gains in focus and productivity were particularly notable as these are areas which directly impact an employee’s ability to deliver to clients. Participants noted the program allowed them to “shift perspectives and engage in a different way” – especially valuable for consultants hired to bring a fresh perspective to client challenges. As wellbeing improved, participants noted increased engagement with their careers, attributing this to “an increase in focus and energy.”
