Why did i join vision seekers ?

Vision seekers is allowing me to let my voice be heard and finally make a change to what I feel strongly about, education, being a young age it’s difficult to be understood and listened to about a topic so important. As a future educator, I love seeing everyone's different perspectives and different ways we could come together and make a difference. I want nothing but the best for everyone and their education.

I believe that there’s a way to get my voice heard and I thank everyone for listening and coming along on my vision seeker journey.

What changes would you like see happen?

Alexis- “I’d like to see some sort of progressive growth when it comes to students getting a change to truly take time to themselves. Being from a lower income area sometimes feels as if we’re limited to certain things we shouldn’t be.”

Dakota- “I’d say maybe when it comes to the freedom we get in school i’d like to see some sort of change. By this I mean giving us school time to have time to study and mental health breaks. Being a senior, i’m EXTREMELY overwhelmed and exhausted and I would love to see some sort of way to calm myself.”

Karla- “ I feel like school limits our creative abilities. I am an artist myself and I want to be able to express myself through work, I would like a place where I could feel safe and take the time to practice my art as a break period.”

What is your idea of a “perfect” school?

Alexis- “ My idea of a perfect school is somewhere that students feel safe and welcome to attend. I’d liked to have little study groups for all students as a class so that everyone could come together and discuss and help each other out. I believe we need to find a way to test students knowledge in a way where they don’t feel anxious or nervous, school is a place that students should be learning new things, not being full of anxiety and worrying about if they’re going to pass or not.”

Dakota- “I agree with Alexis, I would like to see more hands on activities and variety of learning ways, for example we all learn in different, I think we should structure classes to what best suits each student.”

Karla- “ I think we should continue to have core classes but I think we should add new activities to help students let their talents shine as well, whether that’s art, reading and dance. I get there’s electives, and afterschool activities but it would be a nice way to keep ourselves calm.”

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Alexis: “Well. going back to the topic of mental health I would like to see some sort of way where students are getting that extra help if they need it, many times students are afraid to talk to an adult, so maybe they could get a chance to talk to someone they feel comfortable with whether it’s a friend or maybe even someone their age.”

Karla: “ Many parents or families come from different backgrounds and different parts of the world, with that I think I’d like to see more of a way parents can feel welcome and comfortable to speak their native languages. It doesn’t necessarily mean to have translators but more of like support for them as well, offer classes for them they can take to better their english or help them and remind them that they are always welcome.”
