Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Country Group Priorities:

All goals cross the lives of young women considering intersectional diversity. All country groups were able to establish a prioritization based on the severity or impact on the lives of young women, especially:

5.2. Elimination of Violence against women and girls.

5.6 Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights,

5.1 End all discrimination against women and girls.

The goals 5.4 associated with care and goal 5.5 related with the participation of women were also mentioned.

Some links that outlined the group discussions:

  • 5.2 GBV - 3.3 to protect against sexual violence and 3.5 because the use of alcohol increases GBV- 8.5 y 8.3 to guarantee the economic autonomy of women which protects against GBV. 5.b because ICTs, which are necessary, have paved the way for digital violence and networks as a scene of violence.

  • 5.1 Discrimination - 3.8 y 3.3 are limited by discrimination in black, indigenous and palanquera population, among others - 8.5 because it affects equal pay and treatment for women. Especially young women who have paid care work as almost the only option for labor insertion.

  • 5.5 Participation- 3 because without participation of women and young people policies of health and welfare will not include them - 8.6 increasing the participation of women in economic life. Also with 5.1 which operates on the basis of obstacles to full participation.

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

  • Central mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs.
  • This year it will be from the 14th to 23rd of July at the United Nations headquarters in New York
  • The forum Foro involves the first part of the periodic analysis of the advances in the SDGs and then the presentation of the Voluntary National Examinations, in which countries present the status of the implementation of Agenda 2030.
  • This year, under the theme of "Boosting sustainable, inclusive and science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs so as not to leave anyone behind" they will review in depth SDGs 3, 5, 8, 14 and 17. 0
  • This year Guatemala will present the Voluntary National Report.

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

WOMEN POWER 2030 - SIDE EVENT - 17th of July, 2025

“Young and Latin American feminist perspective on SDGs 5, 3 and 8"”

Objectives:

1.Disseminate the considerations and proposals from the youth perspective against the fulfillment of SDGs 3, 5 and 8 and the existing advances and challenges to achieve sustainable development with a gender perspective

2. Promote dialogue with governments to generate strategies so that the perspective of young activists is considered in decision-making spaces, especially in those related to the 2030 Agenda focused mainly on SDGs 3, 5 and 8.

3. Strengthen the follow-up of national responses based on dialogue between young women activists and government representatives.

Methodology:

Interactive panel, with an initial presentation on the objective and presentation of the project, followed by an online presentation of the five young women of these countries and then the consideration of government representatives and their interaction with young women. The closure will be a synthesis of how to expand the participation of young women in the monitoring and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in each country.

Guide for the preparation of country reports

Normative. List. Conduct a search for regulations (national and subnational laws, decrees, resolutions) that are linked to SDG 5 and its link to SDG 3 and SDG 8. What potential do these regulations have to meet the goals of each objective and what legal gaps can they present? Young population and intersectionality?

Public Policies: What are the programs, projects or plans that emerge from these regulations? Do those programs have a gender and intersectional perspective? Do they contemplate the situation of young women? Who are the actors involved in the implementation of these programs? Specify the situation of young women in their intersectionality.

Gaps: What are the gaps they identify? Is there official evidence and data or data generated by other actors (organizations/networks) that account for the gaps in regulatory and policy/program implementation? (Quantitative or qualitative) What do these data indicate? Structural barriers (economic, geographical, language) or attitude barriers (lack of intercultural perspective, youth perspective, gender, etc.).,

Initiatives and demands: What initiatives are being developed from young women to close these gaps? What do young women demand?

Recommendations: Write at least 5 recommendations defining who they are addressing (powers, levels and sectors of public policy) What action or actions will they propose in their countries (national level), at the regional level and at the global level.

What gaps do young women find in all their diversity in their countries, taking into account SDG 5 and its link to SDG 3 and SDG 8?

Do you know any initiative to reduce them? Do you take into account the youthful perspective with an intersectional look?

RECOMMENDATIONS

A recommendation is a proposal or suggestion made by civil society organizations or groups, addressed to governments, public entities, companies or other organizations, with the aim of influencing policies, practices or decisions that affect society. They can address a wide range of topics, from human rights and social justice to the environment, sustainable development and good governance.

A recommendation:

  • They must be concrete, specific and supported by a clear justification.
  • They must focus on practical actions to be implemented.
  • Use clear and concise language, avoiding any kind of ambiguity.
  • It is important to consider the audience they are aimed at and the impact they will have.
  • They can be specific (for example, related to a specific law) or more general (such as the promotion of cultural change).
  • The legitimacy of the recommendations lies in their ability to reflect the interests and needs of civil society, as well as in the transparency of the process and the promotion of dialogue.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Civil society recommendations are an important mechanism for citizen participation and the impact on decision-making that affect society.

Through these recommendations, civil society seeks to build a fairer, more sustainable and equitable world.

Examples of recommendations for youth participation:

  • Create safe and accessible spaces for young people with diverse gender identities to express themselves, participate in decision-making and lead initiatives.
  • Ensure that the voices of young people are heard and valued.
  • Guaranteeing equal opportunities:

Example of recommendations on public policies:

  • Suggestions for the creation, implementation or modification of laws, programs or public policies in areas such as education, health, environment, etc.
  • Ensure access to sexual and reproductive health services, mental health, and disease prevention programs and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
