We will still have the event!

Since this is a day-long event, we will wait out the bad weather underneath the large picnic shelter.

We’ve had good luck three years in a row

Hot weather worries: help yourself by slowly acclimating to exercising outdoors in the warmer months

What if the weather is not ideal?

31 of 47

  • Who: Family, friends, or volunteers at the gym
  • Positions: bike, walk, swim support, SAG (bike support by car), bike maintenance, picnic food oversight, rest stop, first aid, stretching, set up, clean up, photography, DJ, lap counter, ect.
  • Items: snacks, water, ice, picnic food, electrolytes, sports drink, bug spray, suntan lotion, kiddie pool, towels, games, extra helmets, personal fans, squirt guns, ect.
  • Time of day: morning, afternoon, late afternoon, all day, or certain hours

We need volunteers!

Training starts now!

  1. Set goal(s) for yourself
    • Ask Kate for help if you need! I will be checking in with people now
  2. Every 2 months, do a “progress check”
    • February, April, June, August (early)
    • Walking or another activity you can perform
      • Walking – record how far you can walk on the treadmill in a certain amount of time
    • On your own time and doing

How do we set ourselves up for success?

37 of 47

  • Daily, or near daily, exercises that mirror your goals
  • One long exercise bout each week, which gets progressively longer week after week
  • Only increase your long exercise bout once per week, keep everything else the same

Make consistent, nearly daily efforts and slowly make progress

    • One log workout each week, gradually build up each week
    • Record what you’ve done on progress tracking sheet
      • 2-week period sheets to track activities each day
      • Turn into Kate every 2 weeks in the folder holder by the front door
    • Share your wins on the big white boards

How do we set ourselves up for success?

41 of 47

We highly encourage people to buddy up with friends and family members they can train with consistently.

It does not need to be the same person or people each day.  This is an opportunity to do something active with different people each day.

“If you aim to train by yourself – it ain’t going to happen”

- Dan

How do we set ourselves up for success?

42 of 47

  1. We recognize this event is a fundraising opportunity
    • Similar to the 1) MS Dam Bike Tour raising funds for the MS Society’s research initiatives, 2) Susan G Komen breast cancer walk

2) No fundraising minimums are required

    • Optional fundraising by members, volunteers, caregivers

3) Participants can approach individuals, businesses, corporations to support them and/or our organization for any amount of money

Fundraising

43 of 47

  1. Pre-written letter with blank space to write personal goal(s) and sign
    • Snail mail or personal handoff: hard copies available to pick up today
    • Email: electronic copy will go out to members next Monday

2. Create your own campaign! Post your day of endurance journey to Facebook or email and share the link to our website along with it

Disclaimer: Facebook fundraisers make it hard for us to track where the money is going – direct donations via our website is best, check or cash

Tools for fundraising

44 of 47

  1. Joan Ruffino’s fundraising –
    • Solicited friends and family via Facebook to donate $1 per mile walked with the goal of walking 20 miles
    • She $200 per donor
    • She raised more than $1,000 total!
  2. Barbara Bythell raised a few hundred dollars by sending a fundraising letter to friends and family
