What is flipped learning?

  • “Flipping” what students usually do in and out of class.
    • Outside: lower-order cognitive tasks (ex: Bloom’s memorizing and processing).
    • Inside: higher-order cognitive tasks (ex: application).
  • Moves learning from teacher-centered to student-centered.

Benefits.

Considerations.

  • Students can engage with direct instruction at their own pace
  • Class time can be used to engage in deeper learning opportunities, collaboratively or independently, and also with your guidance.
  • Classroom materials are accessible for students and parents anytime and anywhere.
  • Is this an activity that would benefit from a flipped design?
  • Are there other materials that might be more valuable for your students instead of a video?
  • What structures are in place for students that do not complete work outside of class?
  • How will you find time to curate and create resources ahead of lessons?
