Nine crosses

Nizirajvari - a shrine named after George, 1500 meters above sea level, near the Nakerala pass, on the mountain above Tkibuli, in the Imereti area.On the last Saturday of May every year, the Holy Cross is celebrated in Imereti, especially in Tkibuli Municipality and its villages.Also, a unique cave has been discovered near the shrine of Nizakzvari.

There is a legend according to which 9 sons from one of the families went to war. The father of the sons prayed daily that the sons would return home safely. Father decided to make a sacrifice and erected a cross on the mountains of Tkibuli. He carried 9 crosses on the mountain with his own shoulders and made a shrine. After the end of World War II, all sons returned home unharmed. Since then, this shrine has not lost visitors.

Niznazhvari is located near the Nakerala Pass, where the road connecting Tkibuli - Ambrolauri passes. The distance from Nakerala Pass to Nizakhwari is 3 km, where a dirt road leads for less than 1 km, followed by a medium-difficulty hiking trail.
