• Thursday, February 16th: Spring Goal Setting Event and Potluck (6:00-7:30 pm)
• February 20th - 24th: Mid-Winter Break (No School)
• Wednesday, March 15th: Seattle Symphony Link Up Field Trip (Students will get to play their recorders along with the Seattle Symphony. We will send information about chaperoning soon.)

Reading

We are continuing to work on our 3rd reading unit focusing on fiction reading. Students have learned several different strategies for determining themes, including noticing how the minor characters impact the theme and noticing when their character does something out of the ordinary. Our next reading unit will start in a week. This new unit is also focused on fiction reading but students will focus their comprehension skills around the concepts of power and perspective.

Math

Our new unit focuses on addition, subtraction, and measurement concepts. Students will also explore length and distance, liquid volume, time, mass and weight. Ask your student what their favorite strategy is for solving multi-digit addition and subtraction problems!

Writing

Students have started their second literary essay. This essay is about a theme from one of their book club books. They will gather evidence from the beginning, middle, and end of their book in order to support their theme. Our next writing unit will start in a couple weeks. We are going back to narrative writing, so students will have more opportunities to grow in their abilities to write stories.

Happy Mail

When your student does something positive in class that we want to recognize, they’ll be sent home with a yellow piece of Happy Mail. Be on the lookout!

Lectura

Seguimos trabajando en nuestra 3ª unidad de lectura enfocada en la lectura de ficción. Los estudiantes han aprendido varias estrategias diferentes para determinar los temas, incluyendo notar cómo los personajes secundarios impactan el tema y notar cuando su personaje hace algo fuera de lo común. Nuestra próxima unidad de lectura se iniciará en una semana. Esta nueva unidad también se enfoca en la lectura de ficción, pero los estudiantes concentrarán sus habilidades de comprensión en torno a los conceptos de poder y perspectiva.

Matemáticas

Nuestra nueva unidad se enfoca en la suma, la resta y los conceptos de medida. Los estudiantes también explorarán la longitud y la distancia, el volumen de los líquidos, el tiempo, la masa y el peso. ¡Pregunte a sus estudiantes cuál es su estrategia favorita para resolver problemas de sumas y restas de varios dígitos!

Escritura

Los estudiantes han iniciado su segunda redacción literaria. Esta redacción trata sobre un tema de uno de los libros de su club de lectura. Reunirán pruebas del principio, el medio y el final de su libro para apoyar su tema. Nuestra próxima unidad de escritura se iniciará en un par de semanas. Vamos a volver a la escritura narrativa, por lo que los estudiantes tendrán más oportunidades para crecer en sus habilidades para escribir historias.

Correo Feliz

Cuando su estudiante haga algo positivo en clase que queramos reconocer, se le enviará a casa con un pedazo amarillo de Correo Feliz. ¡Estén atentos!
