General Health and Safety Guidelines

  • All students and staff will be required to wear face coverings in school, unless there is a medically documented reason for being unable to do so. In these instances, alternative PPE will be provided, such as face shields and plexiglass barriers.

  • The amount of hallway traffic will be reduced due to specials taking place inside the classroom or outside.

  • Stickers on the floor show 6 feet guidelines.

Arrival

  • Parents/guardians complete Home Health Survey prior to sending child to school.

  • Buses will line up, as usual.

  • Private drop-off will take place, as usual.

  • Signs and staff members will help to direct the students.

Homeroom

  • Parents/guardians should have completed the digital health questionnaire prior to students’ arrival.
  • Students’ temperatures will be taken in the homeroom by a staff member.
  • Students will sanitize their hands upon entry to the classroom.
  • Teachers will take orders for students who are taking home lunches.
  • Students will hang backpacks and jackets on the backs of their chairs.

Specials

  • Art will take place in the Art Room.
    • Students will have individual art boxes to eliminate shared supplies.

  • PE will take place outside. In case of inclement weather, Health will take place in the classrooms.
    • Students will sanitize hands upon reentry to school.

  • Music, Technology, and Spanish will take place in homerooms.

  • Library will not take place during Phase 1.

Physical Education

  • Whenever possible, PE will be held outside in designated areas to ensure separation of students.

  • In case of inclement weather, PE teachers will report to classrooms to teach Health with a focus on Social Emotional Learning.

  • In most cases, PE classes will be equipment-free and will avoid sports that involve physical contact.

  • If equipment is utilized, different equipment will be used each PE period to allow for cleaning.

  • Students will be required to wash their hands/or use hand sanitizer.

Bathrooms

  • Bathrooms will be monitored by staff members to ensure social distancing and to remind students to wash hands.

Nurse Procedures

  • The classroom teacher will call Nurse Kristen to describe symptoms.
  • Nurse Kristen will decide which station the student should visit.
  • There are three care stations: Green, Yellow, and Red.
    • Green - A staff member will be stationed outside the nurse’s office. She will assess a student without a temperature and may treat the child. This is for students who have minor scrapes or who lose teeth.
    • Yellow - The student will enter the nurse’s office to be assessed by Nurse Kristen.
    • Red - A student with a fever or other symptoms of COVID will be isolated in a private room and supervised by a staff member.
  • Younger students will be escorted to and from the Nurse’s Office by a staff member, not another student.

Possible COVID Case

  • The student confirmed positive will be excluded from school in accordance with State guidelines.
  • Ms. O’Connell and Nurse Kristen will work with the local health department to identify and exclude close contacts of the confirmed positive person for
    • 14 days (from exposure).
  • Cleaning of the school will be completed in accordance with State guidelines and recommendations from our local health department.

Mask and Snack Breaks

  • Students will be afforded at least one mask break during the shortened school day. A Security Officer will be present.

  • Mask breaks will take place outside.

  • Snack will be scheduled and staggered. It will take place in various locations outside. A Security Officer will be present.

  • In case of inclement weather, students will eat in the gym.

Dismissal

  • Private transportation vehicles will line up right next to the bus sidewalk.
    • Students being picked up by private transportation will be waiting in the grassy area next to the sidewalk. Students will stand, socially distanced, by grade level.
    • Drivers should place their “last name” signs inside the passenger side windshield.
    • Drivers should bring a pen.
  • Busses will line up to the left of the private cars and will be called, one by one, to Door 16. Students will dismiss through Door 16.

Cleaning Procedures

  • Custodians will sanitize/disinfect high touch points throughout the day. These include, but are not limited to, door handles, touch bars, handrails, water bottle filling stations, and light switches.
  • Bathrooms will be sanitized/disinfected periodically throughout the day.
  • Each classroom will have a Covid-caddy complete with sanitizer, wipes, gloves, and masks.

Social Emotional Wellness

  • The Counselor will create video lessons for homeroom teachers to show in the classroom.
  • A Parent Workshop will be offered.
  • Parents and Teachers can refer students to be seen by the Counselor.
  • The Counselor will check in with high risk students during the school day.
  • The Counselor will be available for check-ins and and to provide breaks for students.
  • The Counselor will also work closely with families.
