Fantasy Football = Creating your own team of NFL players and competing against friends’ teams

What is Fantasy Football?

Fantasy Football is where you manage your own fantasy team of NFL players and compete against other teams.

LIVE

Before the NFL season starts, you will recruit a team of players across different teams during the draft. Each player will earn your team points based on their performance IRL!

Each week, you will be matched against another team in the league. Whomever’s team scored the most total points wins the match.

The league ends with “playoffs” in which teams are matched based on their performance during the season in a single-elimination tournament.

We will be using the ESPN Platform (accessible online or by app).

Important things to know

Fantasy Football Week starts on Thursdays

Each NFL Team has a Bye Week (a week off)

Your players can earn you negative points

You can trade players!

...and Monday is the last day of the fantasy week. You will know if you won your fantasy match by late Monday evening

Be careful not to play players on during a bye week (they won’t earn you any points!)

Yep.

If someone performs poorly one week, they could LOSE you points!

If you don’t like one of your players, you can snatch up a free agent or offer a trade with another fantasy team.

DRAFT TIPS

The draft will rank the expected value of each player. If all else fails, follow their recommendations!

What is the draft?

On draft day, everyone gets to take turns picking out players for their team!

The app has already predicted the most highly valued players, so you can use that as a guide.

Or you can make your own choice and pick whichever player tickles your fancy!

Different player positions have different amounts of potential to earn points. Try to draft players in that order (see next slide).

Be sure to have at least one player in every position!

Try to pick players from different teams when possible. You don’t want all of your players to have the same bye week.

Like life, football is random - so there is nothing wrong with picking someone with the coolest name and/or hairstyle :)

Football Positions

These guys catch long passes. They can earn a lot of points if they catch a lot of passes!

Examples: Adam Thielen, Odell Beckham Jr.

Wide Receivers (WR)

Most Likely to Earn a lot of Points!

These fellas grab the ball from the quarterback and run as far a they can. The father they run, the more points!

Examples: Dalvin Cook, Adrian Peterson

Running Backs (RB)

Least Likely to Earn a lot of Points!

These dudes are in charge of throwing or handing off the ball. They earn points if their pass was successful.

Examples: Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady

Quarter- backs (QB)

These bros are wild cards. They could tackle (and earn you 0 pts) or they can catch the ball (and earn you big pts!)

Examples: Kyle Rudolph, Rob Gronkowski

Tight Ends (TE)

These boys kick that weird extra point after a touchdown or a 3-pt field goal. Each point they get = you get.

Examples: Blair Walsh

Kicker

(K)

This represents the whole team’s performance. Not allowing touchdowns from the other team is good. Allowing touchdowns is bad (i.e. negative points)!

Once the season has started...

Pick who you want to play that week, then sit back and watch your team earn you points!

Each week, you can pick who you want to play in each position (for example, if your QB has a bye that week, you will want to sub in a different QB to play). The app will have projections for how many points each player will earn that week!

If at any point you want to change players on your team, you can either trade or drop-and-add.

Trade Players

If you want a player from someone else’s team, you can offer a trade! They can either accept or reject.

Add Players

Anyone who isn’t currently on someone else’s roster is fair game to be recruited by you! Just remember that you can only have 16 players at at time...

Drop Players

If you have 16 players and you want to add someone new, you’ll first need to drop a player.

The bottom line...

You don’t need any of football experience to build a fantasy team. Just pick some players, cross your fingers that they play well, and have fun!
