JUNIOR AND SENIOR EXAM WAIVER STUDENT INFORMATION

FALL 2024

2 of 6

GENERAL INFORMATION

The exam waiver process was created to acknowledge junior and senior students who have good grades, strong attendance and good discipline. If you meet the criteria, you may request an exam waiver.

  • Juniors may request up to 2 waivers per semester.
  • Seniors may request up to 4 waivers per semester.

Exam waivers are not the same as exam exemptions which are offered in the spring to students enrolled in AP courses who meet certain criteria. The criteria include enrollment in the AP course, take the AP exam and have a specific semester average in the course.

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR BEING APPROVED?

  • You must have a minimum cumulative semester grade average of 70% or above for the course where the waiver is requested by the established grading cut-off date.
  • You may have a maximum of THREE “documented absences (ILP/ILH)” or “UNX” absences in the course where the waiver is requested. Three tardies will equal one absence for attendance purposes for the waiver only. You may not make-up absences or tardies to lower your number of unexcused absences.
  • Advisory Absences count against the waiver–Students may have a maximum of 5 UNX, ILP or ILH absences in Advisory.
  • ALC placement, At-Home suspensions or In-School suspensions will disqualify you from the waiver.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

  • You may not waive both the fall and spring finals for a course. So, you will have to select which semester you would like to request a waiver.
  • If you are a junior, you may not request to waive US history in the fall because of the EOC exam, but you may request that waiver in the spring if you meet the criteria.
  • Exam waivers are not offered for courses articulated with ACC or UT when that course requires a final exam. TALK TO YOUR TEACHER if you are enrolled in an ACC or UT OnRamps course BEFORE you complete a waiver request form.
  • Exam waivers are not offered to juniors and seniors enrolled in traditionally freshman or sophomore courses such as English I & II, World Geography and World History, etc.
