Listening closely for instructions and announcements during all drills:

  • Fire
  • Tornado
  • Lockdown
  • Evacuation

Are prepared.

Know emergency signals and procedures:

  • How to line-up or take position for each of the drills.
  • Where to go and how to behave once you’re there.

Work diligently.

Quickly, quietly, and calmly responding to adult instructions when a drill or emergency occurs.

Keep control.

Stay calm, silent, and in correct location/position.

Show responsibility.

  • Treat drills seriously.
  • Stay in designated area.
  • Follow teacher instructions.

Fire Drill Expectations

  • Immediately get quiet and listen to the teacher’s instructions.
  • Line up quickly and quietly to follow teacher outside to designated area.
  • Exit the classroom using the exterior door.
  • Walk in calm, quiet, single-file line to the designated area.
  • Remain quiet and in line.
  • Return to the classroom in a quiet/orderly manner when teacher instructs and immediately get back to what you were doing before the drill.

Lockdown Drill Expectations

  • Immediately get quiet and listen to the teacher’s instructions.
  • Move into the nearest classroom if you are in the hallway.
  • Move away from the doors/windows and be as out of sight as possible.
  • Remain quiet and calm.

Tornado Drill Expectations

  • Immediately get quiet and listen to the teacher’s instructions.
  • Line up quickly and quietly to follow teacher to the designated area.
  • Remain calm and quiet until the drill is over and teacher has you return to your seat.
  • If “Duck and cover.” is announced, follow instructions.
  • Return to your seat when teacher instructs and immediately get back to what you were doing before the drill.
