STAAR/EOC

  1. Based on standardized, fixed-form state summative tests
  2. Uses a scale score to measure student achievement. The percentile is based on how a student’s score compares to other students in Texas who took the same test.
  3. Measures a student’s proficiency relative to TEKS at a given time (End of Year).
  4. Percentiles are based on the performance of the student population in Texas.

NWEA MAP Growth

  1. Based on Academic Progress Measures in Growth- adaptive by adjusting difficulty of questions
  2. Uses a scale (RIT) to measure academic growth.
  3. Measures a students academic growth over time by tracking changes in their RIT score. It is a diagnostic tool to inform instruction and track progress.
  4. NWEA uses national norming- comparing a student’s performance to their national peers.
