Departure Day

Before heading to our accommodations, we will be skiing at the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City on the way to the site.

1 pair of training skate skis and poles will go with the vehicles (not the truck) – no ski bag – vehicles with enough room or rooftop box only.

Room assignments will be provided on site since we need to review the the layout of the houses on site to ensure chaperones are appropriately distributed

Parent visits - Guidelines

  • This is a team event. Parent visits must be limited to ensure a calm, organized, and well-supervised environment.
  • No chalet visits outside designated visiting periods (times and days will be shared on WhatsApp).
  • Please limit taking athletes off-site.
  • If taking your athlete out:
    • Athlete must speak with a chaperone before leaving.
    • Name, destination, and return time must be written on the chalet whiteboard.
  • These measures help us ensure everyone’s safety and proper supervision.
  • Thank you for your collaboration.

Meals

  • Main portion of meals is being provided by families, sides and extra ingredients will be purchased at grocery stores
  • Baked good will be provided by families. If we run out, we’ll purchase.
  • Athletes will be responsible for preparing meals, clean-up and generally helping out, packing their own lunches and cleaning up the chalets. We’ll organize a roster for meals.
  • Breakfast and lunches will be prepared in the individual cabins, dinner will be a team event in one cabin.
  • Please bring tupperwares and/or baggies for your daily lunches. This will NOT be provided.
  • Bring a lunch and water for the drive to MSA on March 6
  • Bring money for a quick supper if required on the way home on March 14
  • DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR CONTRIBUTION!! WE ARE COUNTING ON IT

House Keeping and MORE

  • Everyone is expected to contribute to the overall tidiness of the facilities, both in common areas and in individual rooms. Please remember that you are sharing your space and be respectful of others.
  • Devices: while we would prefer that devices not be brought, we understand that may not be realistic. The expectation is that devices are not to be used in common rooms or public spaces.
  • A schedule will be posted on a whiteboard in each house outlining daily clean-up duties and dinner preparation responsibilities.

Health

Prioritize your health leading up to the trip!

Remember the Nakkertok Trip Illness & Injury policy.

  • If you are ill or injured, contact your coaches immediately
  • Traveling while compromised slows recovery and risks the health of the entire team
  • Wash your hands frequently, especially before meals and after training.
  • Keep your room tidy and organized to help maintain a healthy environment for everyone.
  • Please do not self-medicate for illness or injury before or during the trip. Always check with a coach first so we can ensure proper care and avoid complications.

Ski preparation

Ski bags and luggage to be collected at Flying Squirrel.

Day bags with practice wear to go with athletes in day vehicles. Please pack skate ski boots in the car travel bag. (Classic boots can go in the cargo van luggage)

TRAVEL WAX both classic & skate RACE skis, GRIP ZONES CLEANED!!!

Skis to be labeled clearly with Name, Cohort, RACE vs. TRAINING (wax team will be rooting through ski bags to pull out race skis for waxing)

Athletes must bring their own grip wax for training

Packing Tips

  • Bring your skate boots in your day pack, along with training clothing, lunch

NATIONALS PACKING LIST

  • Note: there are paid laundry facilities. Bring 0.25$ and 1.00$ coins and some laundry soap. (might be a good idea to combine with a friend(s) for a load rather than not filling the machine)
  • Rain jacket - looks like maybe some rain
  • Outfit for the banquet
  • There is some down time. You may want to bring homework, games, crafts, books.

Code of Conduct

Here is the document

All Nakkertok athletes, coaches, and support team members are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful, professional, responsible, and good sporting manner at all times.

Behaviour Expectations:

  • Respect the right of others to undisturbed rest. No excessive noise between 10pm and 8am
  • Inform and seek approval from one of the coaching/support staff regarding whereabouts and activities at all times when away from the team accommodations or the race site
  • Minimum groups of 2
  • If room visits involve persons less than 18 years of age, keep doors open allowing clear view of the rooms and occupants – better yet, socialize in our hostel’s common areas!
  • Avoid conduct that damages Nakkertok’s image, credibility or reputation

Support team meeting

Code of Conduct and Nakkertok trip policies: know them. Any violations - Geoff/Tova/Nolan/Claudia MUST be contacted immediately

You will be wearing lots of hats.

Supervision of Athletes: The support team (coaches and parent volunteers) will assist the Trip Organizer making sure athletes respect the Code of Conduct, including touring the halls as required, monitoring afternoon and evening rest times and reminding racers of the opposite-gender room policy (keeping doors open with visitors of opposite gender).

 

No alcohol consumption is allowed during the duration of the trip.

 

Any disciplinary issues will be handled by the Lead Coach, Trip Coordinator and Trip Organizer, in consultation with the Race Committee Director, if necessary, in accordance with the Nakkertok Code of Conduct.
