Why the VM?

• Everyone has access to the same computing power

​

• It is automatically synchronized with our releases

​

• We will use NeuroDeskapp inside the VM, where all the relevant packages and softwares are already installed

Download the appropriate installation for your OS

Getting started with lab sessions

go to vdi.epfl.ch for

Omnissa (VMware) Horizon Client

gaspar

username & password

Select the right VM

- If you do not see this, or anything including “NX421” in the name, notify a TA and leave your e-mail and sciper number

Expected desktop.

Please read the points on the desktop carefully!

Open Neurodesk from the icon

Click on “Open local Neurodesk”

Wait for the session to load, it might take some minutes

Open the Labs folder

Choose the Week you want and start working on the lab

IMPORTANT!!!

Everything is destroyed after you close the VM, since it automatically resyncs with the status of the course github repository

CONSEQUENCES

→ If you work on a lab and then leave the files inside the “Labs” folders, you will NOT find it anymore the next time you open the VM…

​

THEN HOW DO I SAVE MY PROGRESS?

You can copy the files you want to save into the myFiles folder (see next slide)

Where to find the myfiles folder: data→Desktop→myfiles

Everything you copy into myfiles will remain in myfiles :)

Note:

If you want you can also directly do the labs from the myfiles folder. However, the MCQ questions and the HTML images will not render, since the absolute path is set to be in the “Labs” folder.

→ It is advisable to

1. You copypaste the full Week folder you are working on to the Labs folder
2. You work from there
3. Once you are done you copypaste it back to the myfiles folder.
