18 of 51

Q6: I have feedback / suggestions for improvement, who can I reach out to?

A: Please submit your feedback through this Feedback Form.

Q7: Can you help repost / retweet our social media shoutouts?

A: We are not able to do that given that this is an Alpha launch. If we do this for 1 project, then we will need to do the same for all.

Q8: Can I have multiple logins to manage the articles?

A: Only 1 account is designated as the ‘project account’ for now. However, we are working on an update to allow all emails with access to SRD to have the ability to post a long-form article on CMC Community.

Q9: Can you grant me admin rights for the discussion board?

A: We have no plans to do so. You may report spam comments. If it’s against our community rules, our moderators will remove errant comments. Unlocking VIP features such as pinned announcements would allow you to give more prominence to your messages on the board.

Q1: Can I pass on the invitation to other projects?

A: If the project is already listed on CMC, please contact Gabriel (@zani_io - Telegram)

Q2: What do I have to do to be onboarded for CMC Community?

  • Please apply here. We offer a fast-track service (CMC Priority or CMCP). Please review the price schedule here.
  • Please beware of spoofed emails, fake CMC accounts, or individuals requesting listing fees and/or impersonating (ex) CMC employees. Don’t trust random people on the internet.
  • Attempting to bribe CMC staff in the hopes of influencing the outcome of your request may result in the delisting/blacklisting of the project. We do not sanction any external service to assist in the listing application of any cryptoasset project or exchange.
    • There are many services/middlemen who purport to guarantee results (e.g. listing, trending search, supply verification).
    • Their modus operandi is to ‘spray and pray’ and claim credit for the ones that would have been processed organically to give the illusion of a track record, viz. citing recently listed coins as their handiwork.
    • Caveat Emptor: If you are scammed by such services, we will not be in a position to recover your funds.
  • CoinMarketCap reserves the right to exercise its sole discretion to delist/blacklist any project that attempts to bribe CMC employees.
  • Hall of Shame (Non-exhaustive list - there are many more unscrupulous actors)
  • Although past investigations into reports of CMC staff receiving bribes have revealed that these were due to impersonators or middlemen, we shall reiterate that we have a channel to report impropriety. Feel free to submit detailed evidence (e.g. txn id, chat usernames/chat logs) to report@coinmarketcap.com so that we can investigate and take the necessary action.

(CRYPTOASSETS) Why is my listing ‘untracked’ on CMC? How can I get it ‘tracked’?

We offer a fast-track service (CMC Priority or CMCP). Please review the price schedule here.

Projects that do not meet the minimum requirements MAY still be featured on the site as Preview/untracked listings, as outlined below. Kindly review our listings criteria - https://coinmarketcap.com/methodology/#listings-criteria

  1. Inactive Listing - Projects that have been set to inactive status due to the absence of market data on at least one (1) CMC-supported exchange or cessation of operations. To qualify for a reactivation review, the project must be able to demonstrate that the asset is actively traded with material volume on at least one (1) CMC-supported exchange.
  2. Unverified Listing - Projects whose price data show up through automated processes, but have not been reviewed by CMC.
  3. Preview/Untracked Listing - Projects that do not meet the minimum requirements in Section B1/B2 to track market data, but nevertheless exhibit strengths in a number of areas of Section C (Evaluation Framework).
  4. Tracked Listing - Projects that have met the minimum requirements in Section B1/B2 and exhibit strengths in a number of areas of Section C.

For a cryptoasset to be considered for a listing review, it must meet the following prerequisites:

  1. Leverage cryptography, consensus algorithms or distributed ledgers, peer-to-peer technology and/or smart contracts to function as a store of value, medium of exchange, unit of account, or decentralized application.
  2. Must have a functional website and block explorer.
  3. Must be traded publicly, and actively traded on at least one (1) exchange (with material volume) that has tracked listing status CoinMarketCap.
  4. Provide a representative from the project with whom we can establish open lines of communication for any clarifications.

  • For trading volumes, there is no specific threshold that we are able to disclose, as we benchmark our assessment against market conditions and other applications. An added consideration would be to prevent people from 'gaming' the system.
  • As a general rule of thumb (this is by no means a guarantee), 3-figure USD volumes and below are harder to justify.

Note that these are just the minimum requirements and meeting them does not guarantee a tracked listing, as we benchmark submissions against others in the cohort.

For an exchange to be considered for a tracked listing review, it must meet the following prerequisites (Congruence with our API ideal samples (See item 2.1 below) would simplify the process of integration if the exchange is shortlisted):

  1. A functional website with trading volume that matches its API data.
  2. Must publish a summary API endpoint that exposes the last price and 24h volume of each cryptoasset.
    1. See sample of an ideal API endpoints. Exchanges must include a variable for ‘type’ of market to help us distinguish derivatives (e.g. perpetual swaps, options, physically-delivered futures) from spot markets.
  3. Must be in operation for at least sixty days (The number of days that affiliated exchanges of the same name have been in operation counts towards this requirement).
  4. Must allow traders to place buy and sell orders on an orderbook.
  5. Must allow users to view all market pairs/order books without the need to log-in to the website.
  6. Must have direct URLs that display each asset unambiguously (full asset name and/or logo), preferably with a ‘System Status’ page that shows all listed assets.
  7. Must be able to provide a representative from the exchange with whom we can establish open lines of communication for any clarifications.
  8. Requests originating from emails that share the domain of the exchange will be prioritized.

Note that these are just the minimum requirements and meeting them does not guarantee a tracked listing, as we benchmark submissions against others in the cohort.

Our prices are derived from APIs, rather than assigned by us.

  • Every minute, the various exchanges are queried via API endpoints for their most recent market data.
  • All data is run through several data cleaning and verification algorithms to ensure data integrity.
  • The price for each individual market pair is calculated by taking the unconverted price reported directly from the exchange and converting it to USD using CoinMarketCap’s existing reference prices.

The price of a cryptoasset is calculated using an algorithm that factors the ‘trustability’ or ‘confidence’ from the distribution of prices reported by an exchange. According to the law of large numbers, the expected value of the price distribution should converge to the real value of the asset. The rationale for using the distribution of prices reported by an exchange is because each market pair can be viewed as a sample of the ‘real’ price. If an asset is traded across many exchanges, its reported prices will converge to the expected value of the distribution. When we have a large number of markets, the expected value of price distribution should converge to the ‘real’ price. Some prices are excluded from the average, denoted by an asterisk (*) on the markets tab if the price does not seem indicative of a free market price; for example, when an exchange disables withdrawals or deposits, or regulatory conditions make it impossible for anyone else outside of a certain geographical region to buy coins.

Some prices are also excluded when our algorithms detect that the reported price is a significant outlier when compared to other market pairs for the same cryptocurrency, denoted by three asterisks (***) on the markets tab. The volume of any cryptoasset is the total spot trading volume reported by all exchanges over the last 24 hours for that cryptoasset. Some market pairs are excluded from the sum, denoted by two asterisks (**) on the markets tab, if the exchange does not enforce a trading fee or otherwise offers significant incentives to trade on the market pair. Market pairs with these characteristics are rather susceptible to wash trading, resulting in artificially inflated reported volumes. From our experience, we have found that it is better to exclude these markets to give a better representation of relative trading volumes for the crypto market.

How do we fix the price and volume outlier detection on a specific crypto asset?

44 of 51

It is relatively easy for anyone to create a cryptoasset with a putative market cap of USD 164B

  • Get listed on a few permissionless DEXes or CEXes with minimal vetting standards and use bots to create volume (easier if liquidity is low)
  • It is with the aforementioned in mind that we have enacted certain requirements that must be met before publishing a project’s market cap verified/rank.

For Cryptoasset rank, please review these materials:

For Exchange rank, please review these materials:

We have sought to provide some degree of transparency by providing general guidance on our evaluation framework. The rationale for not being too specific or granular is because we do not want to make it easy for projects to 'game the system'. This is common practice across a host of industries:

    • Schools publish the syllabus but not the exam answers.
    • F&B companies publish the ingredients but not the recipe/secret sauce because the latter is a trade secret.
    • Companies publish salary bands as opposed to disclosing the actual salaries of each employee.

I should be ranked higher. How does your ranking system work? How do I get a higher rank?

How do I ‘fix’ my verified circulating supply and market cap?

Ensure that you have submitted the necessary documentation here. As the adage goes, don't trust, verify. Anyone can tell us that their project has a putative market cap of USD 164 billion and it would be expedient for us to publish that figure without any critical analysis. In fact, many actors in this space have every incentive to inflate their CS/MC, which could displace honest projects from our rankings page. In the spirit of fairness and data fidelity, should we take what projects say at face value and let them grade their own homework or should we endeavor to apply a consistent methodology across the 14M+ cryptoassets on our site? Users and the media often question us over large balances that are ostensibly 'circulating' for certain projects, which necessitate reasonable efforts on the due diligence front.

Our decision on whether to publish the verified CS will therefore depend on the team's ability to verify the data with a reasonable level of confidence. In particular, the team will evaluate the asset's trading venues, volume, and liquidity to determine whether these are commensurate with the notional market cap/rank.

The CMC team determines the Circulating Supply and Cryptoasset Rank based on our methodology.

  1. Please submit the relevant documentation here and note that we have our own grading rubric to calculate circulating supply.
  2. We may not take the figures from APIs/whitepapers/blog posts because we have our own calculation schematic which may differ from yours.
  3. Circulating Supply is verified by our team through communication with the project’s team. We ask for details including but not limited to the initial distribution, private allocations, locked addresses, team-controlled addresses, and addresses containing portions of the supply allocated for future use.
  4. We examine the project’s blockchain and distribution table to determine the best approximation of what is freely circulating in the market based on the information provided.
  5. Kindly note that under our methodology, we would typically exclude the address balances of wallets that are labeled as private investors, marketing operations, treasury, ecosystem incentives, and team/advisors/contractors regardless of whether they are unlocked.
  6. Once the information is verified, the circulating supply is usually updated in real-time by (i) building a supply module that references wallet balances or (ii) using relevant block explorer APIs if there is scrutability and reproducibility.
  7. It is in every project’s interest to provide accurate and well-documented information in good faith.
  8. Projects that attempt to manipulate or artificially inflate their supply figures will be permanently disqualified from the rankings.
      • (Verified/Ranked) Circulating Supply: CoinMarketCap requires projects to provide enough information to meet our baseline levels of due diligence. We will not publish a verified circulating supply figure if project teams do not furnish the requisite information that meets our standards/methodology.
      • (Self-Reported/Unranked) Circulating Supply: CMC's Self-Reporting Dashboard aims to give projects greater flexibility and control over the information that they share with the public. The goal of (i) is to give projects a voice by allowing them to display their self-reported CS (alongside the CMC-verified CS) on their CMC page (irrespective of the methodology used) without any ranking implications.

Unless you have strong evidence that users on the exchange cannot withdraw the assets (i.e. they are fake), this would be antithetical to free market principles. The exchange might have bought the asset on the secondary market. Our role as a data aggregator is to take a non-partisan approach.

We can change the ticker symbol if this is reflected in the API endpoints of the majority of exchanges. Changing the ticker symbols to something that does not match the ticker symbols in exchange APIs will cause the price feeds to break.

Can I change my ticker symbol on CMC?

Exchanges (especially DEXes) do not impose any restrictions on ticker symbols; Given that we pull market data from exchange APIs, we do not place similar restrictions as tickers are non-rivalrous. it is also not uncommon for projects to share identical ticker symbols (e.g. HOT).

Can I change the slug of my CMC page?

We strongly advise against changing to the slug due to the adverse impact that it would have on the SEO of the page, which would hurt the discoverability of your project on Google. Changing the slug will often cause the page to momentarily disappear on the site. That said, we are more than happy to change the display name of your project as it would not have any impact on the aforementioned.

Can I reserve a ticker symbol on CMC?

Can I delist a market pair because the exchange listed our asset without permission?

Our trending list is algorithmically-determined by an amalgamation of traffic/page views, volume, liquidity, and social chatter on CMC community. It is against our policy to disclose the thresholds as there is an element of competitive-benchmarking (or bell-curving) against the cohort.

How do I get my project into the trending list on CMC?

Why do some market pairs have a ‘N/A’ confidence score?

This is due to a lack of data points needed to calculate the confidence score. More often than not, this is due to missing orderbook and/or liquidity data from the exchange associated with the market pair.

We pull price and volume data for all market pairs from the API endpoints of exchanges that we have integrated with If we have not integrated with the exchange that the asset is trading on, it is not possible to track prices for the market pair in question. We are only able to track markets whose (i) assets and (ii) exchanges have 'tracked listing' status on CoinMarketCap and have material trading volume. Please review the different listing tiers.

In order for us to review the eligibility of tracking new markets, we would first need a submission (preferably from project representatives) for the following:

  1. Submit a detailed '1 - [new listing] Add cryptoasset' request here
  2. Submit a detailed '2 - [new listing] Add exchange' request here

After items (1) and (2) are approved and added to the site,

  • Submit a request to ‘3 - [Existing cryptoasset/exchange] Add market’ request here

Why are you not tracking the market pairs for X? The volume on exchange X is understated due to this.

The search optimises for exact symbol matches. If you search for "OASIS", coins with the exact ticker symbol OASIS will be prioritised.

CMC’s price charts amalgamate data from exchanges at the time that the asset is tracked on CMC. Please check the exchange's 5-min line chart in the first few hours since listing before raising any requests. Note that CMC’s line charts take the 5-min closing price (as is customary with ohlcv data). As a data aggregator, CMC will NOT modify data to help projects improve chart optics. If the trade did indeed transpire, it will be displayed on the price chart. If there are legitimate reasons to modify chart data, projects may follow the steps outlined here.
