To prepare this handbook of activities lecturers can use to help students engage, persist and succeed, we propose a trigger question:
What questions would you like to see answered in this handbook? – or what challenges/problems/difficulties you have observed in relation to the big questions below:
1.1 help your students engage better (with the learning)? And stay motivated?
1.2 help your students to become autonomous learners?
1.3 make sure your students do not ‘give up’ when they encounter difficulties (in learning)?
1.4 make sure that diverse students - and not only those who are already very good at learning - can achieve what we want them to achieve in first-year courses?
2. What conditions would you need to have to be able to create settings in which many more students can learn successfully?
