Community College

  • Fantastic option! Do your lower division work for less cost, then transfer to 4-year college as a junior.
    • UC’s are ⅓ transfer students, higher admission rate
    • West Valley will pay for your first semester in college!
  • Santa Barbara City College->UCSB, Cuesta->Cal Poly SLO, Santa Monica College->USC, etc.
  • Great option if you are unsure of major and would like to explore many different courses.
  • To enroll: Must be 18 or have graduated from high school
    • Registration will take place in the spring of your senior year

42

43 of 49

UC/CSU

Basic application requirements:

  • Meet the A-G requirements with C’s or better
    • Pass/Fail grades are accepted
  • SAT/ACT is no longer considered for admission to either system
  • Essay prompts (UC only: “PIQ”/Personal Insight Questions)
  • Honors/Awards/Activities (UC only)

43

44 of 49

Private Colleges/Out-of-State Publics

  • Generally the same admissions requirements as UC/CSU
    • Nearly all remain test-optional or test-blind this year
  • Likely also need letter(s) of recommendation
  • Personal Statement plus some with supplemental questions
  • Many will consider student activities/community service/work experience
