Wellness Center @ SHS - Open Monday- Friday, 8am - 4pm (except for school holidays)

A place for the students to take a quiet break by themselves or with friends (SEL activities: coloring, origami, chess, etc.)
Student outreach/peer support groups (Falcon friends, Sources of Strength, Yoga for all, etc.)
Mental Health Counseling (12 free sessions for school based counseling services)
Resource to help students and their families when they are struggling

It can be confusing for students to figure out which college needs what. We strongly recommend every student devise a system of organizing materials to be sent to colleges in a timely matter. From this chart, you can see the different requirements for different schools.

If a student is applying to community college such as West Valley College or De Anza College, the only thing a student is required to complete is the online application and accompanying placement exams. This does not happen until March or April.

For the CSU system, you can see that there are applications and SAT/ACT scores that need to be submitted. Upon request from the university, students may need to submit transcripts as well. Letters of recommendations are not needed.

The UC system asks for the application, SAT or ACT scores, and essays. Subject tests are optional. Upon request from the university, students may need to submit transcripts. It remains to be seen whether or not some UCs will require letters of recommendation.

As you can see, applying to private schools is most time consuming. Not only do students need to complete applications, submit test scores (which may include subject tests), but they also have a battery of essays, supplemental essays and also need letters of recommendation. We always caution students against applying to too many private schools, as it will be difficult for students to complete that many applications and maintain a rigorous courseload senior year.

Fantastic option! Do your lower division work for less cost, then transfer to 4-year college as a junior.

UC’s are ⅓ transfer students, higher admission rate
West Valley will pay for your first semester in college!

Santa Barbara City College->UCSB, Cuesta->Cal Poly SLO, Santa Monica College->USC, etc.
Great option if you are unsure of major and would like to explore many different courses.
To enroll: Must be 18 or have graduated from high school
