2. Send home parental consent form

  • Parental consent is for survey only!
    • Students can still play the game if their parent doesn’t sign for the survey.
  • 1 consent, 1 envelope
  • Should be “blind” to you (i.e., returned to you in sealed envelope so you don’t know which students’ parents consented)
    • If returned but not in sealed envelope, that’s ok, just put it in one without looking at the signature page.

3. Have all students complete pre-game survey

  • 2-pages (front/back) (takes about 3-5 minutes)
  • Must put their name on it
    • We will match their survey to their parental consent form with their name, then will destroy it so it becomes anonymous in the research
    • If they don’t understand a word or instructions, you can help them
  • Can be completed any time before the game, i.e.:
    • At the beginning of the year
    • At your first meeting together
    • Right before playing the game

4. Have all students play the game and complete the post-game survey

  • Everyone plays the game (takes about 20 minutes).
  • Alternative to VR version: If they don’t want to use a VR headset, use a computer-based version instead - usable on a Chromebook with internet connection, but you may need to get your IT person to make the website an “allowed site.”

  • This post-game survey is longer – 8 pages (takes about 5-10 minutes).
    • You can help if they don’t understand questions/instructions.
  • Survey should be completed immediately after playing the game.
  • You will also immediately complete your post-game “teacher” report for each student.

  • All students can play the game, regardless of parental consent.
  • All students must complete the post-game survey, regardless of parental consent.
    • We will later match the completed surveys to the parental consent, and ONLY use the surveys that have parental consent. We will destroy the rest.

    • January 15
    • April 1
    • End of year
