Notes for Teachers:

In order to maximize your success we suggest:

Begin with the MathRep Page (slide 2) as a whole group and practice until students are confident and reasonably fluent. Approx 1 week
Teach students how to play the blank board game. (spin and move counter). Approx 2-3 days showing hops, how to count spaces, focus on ordinal numbers….
Play board game with MathReps as a whole group - Students Vs. Teacher. Students have MathRep paper in sleeve and are completing whole group. Meanwhile Teacher is making every predictable mistake; encouraging students to correct. This is the time to teach the proper way to correct someone - need for social skills to be taught and setting the tone. Approx 1 day
Do a ‘fishbowl’ where 2 kids play and the class watches them play. Making corrections as necessary. Tone Set. Model incorrect and then correct behavior. Approx. 2 day Focus on social skills
Then…. Release the hounds!
Early finishers: Give students a new number to play again.
BONUS: Use this paper as an assessment!
Extension: Have a stack of numbers that students pick from so that each group is doing a different number.
