Need for an Easy Stop Sled

  • You can get hurt when sledding by:
    • Bumping into other kids
    • Running into trees or bushes
    • Hitting vehicles
    • You can hurt body parts trying to stop

  • How it works:
    • Works by friction as you apply pressure
    • To the right I demonstrate on a dog sled how to apply pressure
    • The Easy Stop Sled will just lean back to apply pressure on a back rest and brake

A Snow Sled with a Brake

  • Other sleds look like this:
  • All have hand brake
      • Costs between $45 - $175
  • Our field research:
    • Don’t last very long
      • Only one day (in Nome)
      • The plastic breaks easily
      • If one brake is used, it pulls to the side and flips over
