To You –
the students of O.H.S., who have upheld so firmly our ideals of “leadership, scholarship, service, and character”, this book is presented. When you read it, may the echoes of the past return to charm you.
With the passing of time, the echoes of our school life will grow progressively fainter and then die away like the school-day memories of our grandparents. We hope that this 1959 Echo will bring back memories of fun, studies, parties, games, and friends.

~Student Council~
The Student Council is the governing body of the students at O.H.S. Through this body, projects are carried on which greatly benefit the students and faculty.
One of the Council’s most commendable project for the year of ‘59 was a money-raising campaign for a public address system for our school. The council was in charge of the concession stand at most of the basketball games
The Student Council consists of students selected from each class. The officers are then chosen from among them, except the President who is chosen by the student body.
The members are Janet Read, Jerry Parmenter, Mary Jo Slayman, Joan Bannister, and Ann Speck. Mr. Longhofer is the Sponsor.
~Student Council~
The Officers are Barbara Coffelt, President; Connie Hagadorn, Vice-President; Mary Jo Asmus, Secretary; Tom Speck, Treasurer; and Judy Baughman, Publicity Chairman

~Newspaper Staff~
Miss Eleanor Vossler, Sponsor, and Melinda Miller, Editor, work with the other staff members in publishing the O.H.S. newspaper, THE TROJAN. Not only does this newspaper provide juicy bits of gossip, but also many items of interest to O.H.S. students. Everyone looks forward to hearing the announcement, “The newspaper will be sold today.”

~Vocal Music~
The Osawatomie High School Chorus is quite proud of its new choir robes. These robes are red and white, the same as our school colors. They were purchased with contributions from local organizations.
The Chorus gives a Christmas program each year. Also, it goes to the District Music Contest at Lawrence. This year the Choir will be going to Rosedale for the Music Festival, held each year.

~Red Cross Council~
The Junior Red Cross Council, now in its second year at O.H.S. is concentrating this year on the production of nut cups, carnival caps, tray favors, and tray covers for military and veterans’ hospitals at each holiday season.
They bought and wrapped ten gifts for the Atchison Receiving Home at Christmas time.
The International School Correspondence Program is the special project for 1958-59. It provides the Council with an opportunity to communicate with a group of young people in another country by means of writing, art, and photography which will be assembled into an album for exchange.
MEMBERS, LEFT TO RIGHT: Richard Buchanan, Max Sullins, Dickie Vess, Charles Chancellor, Mary Ann Akers, Janet Read, and Sharon Wicke.

~Closing~
If we can look back upon the happy moments and crowd the unhappy ones from our minds, the memories of things that we have shared will bring a strong sense of satisfaction to us.
Who knows what lies around the bend ahead? It may be that goal we have sought, and it may not; but whatever it is, we hope that the echoes will bring back pleasant memories.
