Lesson 8
The 144 thousand who will not bow to the antichrist
4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. 5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, 6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, 7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, 8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
Revelation 7.4-8
BASIC BIBLICAL TEXT
1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
Revelation 14.1,3
BASIC BIBLICAL TEXT
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10.13
GOLDEN TEXT
* Identify the scenario and mission of the 144 thousand;
* Understand that this is the number of Jews sealed, with the name of Christ and the Father, during the Great Tribulation;
* Understand that they will reject the mark of Antichrist and represent a voice of denunciation, warning and judgment, in a time of extreme confusion and pain.
OBJECTIVES
In our study, we will use the golden rule of biblical exegesis, used by most theologians and experts in the study of the Scriptures: "The Bible interprets the Bible itself."
INTRODUCTION
WHO WILL THE 144 THOUSAND BE?
A special group in the end time
1 – WHO WILL THE 144 THOUSAND BE?
Bought among the men
Everyone will have God’s seal
The 144 thousand will be protected by the Lord
1 - WHO WILL THE 144 THOUSAND BE?
Biblical studies reveal that this is a literal indication: twelve thousand people from each of the twelve tribes of Israel, making a total of 144 thousand individuals (Rev 7.5,8); all of Jewish nationality, according to what John heard and, soon after, saw in the revelations of the Apocalypse.
1.1 – A special group in the end time (Rev 7. 9,10)
In the middle of the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist will promote intense, cruel and terrible worldwide persecution against the Jews. The promises of peace, security and great prosperity, publicly announced by the Antichrist, will not happen. He will say that the Jews are to blame for everything wrong that is happening. Pressured by persecution, the Jews will seek the Lord and many will be saved (2 Cor 3:14).
1.2 - Bought among the men
The 144 thousand will be redeemed. The expression (redeemed) in this text has the meaning of "redemption, salvation, rescue". Note that this group will be on earth and will be redeemed among men.
1.3 - Everyone will have God’s seal
The apocalyptic mysteries were being revealed to John, who, at one point, had a vision of five angels: four positioned at the four ends of the Earth, holding back the winds, while the fifth announced that they had received orders to mark with the seal of God 144 thousand people from the tribe of Israel.
With the seal mark, they will tell humanity that everyone is identified with God and the lamb (1 Peter 2:9; Rom 1:16).
1.4 - The 144 thousand will be protected by the Lord
All people who serve the Antichrist will be marked with the mark of the beast. This sign will not, under any circumstances, guarantee any benefit, assistance or provision.
In this time of "birth pains", the people of Israel will go through the purification process, in which they will experience terrible suffering, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Jacob's anguish (Jer 30.7).
WHAT WILL BE THE TASKS OF THE 144 THOUSAND?
They will preach the gospel of the Kingdom
2 – WHAT WILL BE THE TASKS OF THE 144 THOUSAND?
They will confront the satanic trinity
They will follow the Lamb
They will keep their integrity and complete holyness
They will praise the Lamb
2.1 - They will preach the gospel of the Kingdom
The 144 thousand will be the ambassadors sent by the Lord to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God (Rev 11.15).
They will announce that the coming kingdom will be universal, of worship to the true God (Dn 7.14), and will have divine glory and authority, with full access for all.
2.2 - They will confront the satanic trinity
The empire of the beast, infested by demons, will be harshly confronted with the powerful message of the 144 thousand, who will prophesy the end of that kingdom of darkness.
With them, the Two Witnesses will face the satanic trinity and will suffer terrible attacks (Rev 11. 5,6).
2.3 - They will follow the Lamb (Rev 14. 1,4)
The 144 thousand will follow the Lamb wherever He goes.
They will be devoted and persevering in full apostasy (John 1:29; Rev 5:6-9)
2.4 - They will keep their integrity and complete holyness
The spiritual condition of the world, dominated by the Antichrist and the diabolical hosts, will be one of darkness everywhere.
Thus, the activity of this group, at the end of time, will cause a huge impact on the planet: its integrity will be visible, public and known to everyone.
2.5 - They will praise the Lamb
In fulfilling the mission received from the Lord, the 144 thousand will praise God and the Lamb with a new song. They will be the target of relentless persecution by the Antichrist and the infernal troops. In the midst of war, they will sing hymns of praise to the Eternal.
The invitation to salvation, according to the Scriptures, is addressed to everyone, without distinction. Thus, as many as accept him voluntarily and are faithful to his commandments will be saved (Rev 22:17). These are countless.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE SAVED? ONLY 144 THOUSAND?
Salvation is a gift given by God
3 – HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE SAVED? ONLY 144 THOUSAND?
God wants everyone to be saved
God already provided salvation to everyone
3.1 - Salvation is a gift given by God
The apostle Paul was assertive in stating that the result of sin is death, but the free gift of God is salvation, which is granted to humanity through the atoning sacrifice of Christ (Rm 6.23).
3.2 - God wants everyone to be saved
The greatest, supreme and loving will of God is the salvation of all humanity (1 Tim 2.4; Titus 2.11; 2 Peter 3.9).
He does not wish anyone's destruction; therefore, he provided salvation for everyone. The Lord sent his only Son to save each and every person, wherever and however the person is.
At the end of His earthly ministry, Jesus commanded His disciples to go to all the world with the saving message of the gospel (Mark 16:15). If the scope of salvation covered only 144 thousand people, it would not make any sense to announce it, without distinction, for centuries and centuries.
3.3 - God already provided salvation to everyone
Restricting salvation to the number of 144 thousand people is nonsense, in addition to being a very limited and small way of thinking.
The Bible presents God's love as something absolutely comprehensive and universal in its desire to crown everyone with the incomparable prize of redemption in Christ Jesus (1 Tim 2. 3,4; 1 John 4.9,10).
The 144 thousand will appear in the post-rapture period of the Church, a time when the Antichrist predominates.
The mission of this complete and closed group is, first and foremost, to announce the gospel of the Kingdom. However, the 144 thousand will also oppose the Antichrist and denounce his diabolical practices of deception and lies (Acts 20:24).
CONCLUSION
GOD BLESS YOU!
