2023 and ongoing Challenges

  • Lots of Arson, especially along the great Northern Highway.

  • Too many communities with too much grass no Firebreaks/Graded ring roads

  • Hard to break the Late season fire cycle in some areas

  • AFDRS system prevented us burning 1 year old grass at the right time

Future Solutions

  • More community engagement & more strategic early burning on highway. Burning later into the dry season

  • Wet season grass management, engaging communities more to help organise breaks

  • Taking more risks burning later into the dry season. Opportunistic wet season burning and roadside

  • We have a way of applying for an additional permit to burn during high fire danger days
