Numeracy Assessment:

What’s Next

  • Growing it by teaming with another teacher
  • Building continuity
    • Math journals
    • Language we use
  • Schedule - “Day in the Life”
  • Share Scope & Sequence

What works:

    • Huge block of time
    • Morning routine has literacy/numeracy embedded
    • Highly structured (“fun” built in)/ things are SCHEDULED in
    • Math games are organized as a quick fill in (use the same games that work all year)
    • Use math as a journal activity

Check-in on the Early Success Screen

  • Feedback from last session

  • People have been using it and are happy to have it!
  • Lots of excitement in the Fall
  • Report cards and Covid have really impacted the ability to get back to it
  • Re-present it at the Summer Pro-d - to get staff on-board again
  • The pdf will be added to the website
  • We will print two copies for every school
  • Strategy Sam can also be shared at home! “Teach your parents how to use the strategies.”
  • Some schools have fixed things they do with word sounds – using a continuum – Carolyn will share with the group
  • What kind of information is being communicated to the next teacher?
  • RAZ KIds have a quick reading check, especially great for mid-year check-in (careful of the leveling, it might be a bit off)
  • Using literacy stations to check in and fit in assessment
  • Some teachers are doing bits and pieces with different students
  • We need more exposure to it - will take time - so great for beginning teachers!
