The words showing some action or work are known as VERB.

To find Verb in a sentence we can ask this question:-

“What work is done?”

And the answer will be

Transitive Verb:-

Look at the Following :-

Man is revolving the Globe.

Boxer is hitting the Boxing Pad.

In both the situations Subject is passing on some action to the object.

Or

Some change is brought in the shape, size and position of the object by the subject.

Transitive Verb (Definition):-

SO

If some action is passed on to the object by the subject and hence some change is brought in the shape, size or position of the object then the verb is called Transitive Verb.

For example

  1. She eats an apple.
  2. He writes a letter.
  3. They are flying kites.
  4. Mother is pulling the pram.

Intransitive Verb:-

Look at the Following :-

Airplane is flying in the sky.

Two men are fighting.

In both the situations Subject is not passing any action to the object.

Or

No change is brought in the shape, size and position of the object by the subject.

Intransitive Verb (Definition):-

SO

If no action is passed on to the object by the subject and hence no change is brought in the shape, size or position of the object then the verb is called Intransitive Verb.

For example

  1. Bird is flying in the sky.
  2. Boy is crying.
  3. I am standing on the road.
  4. They are playing in ground.

Gerund (Definition):-

The “Verb + ing” form of the verb that acts as the Noun is known as Gerund.

For Example

  1. Sleeping is good for health.
  2. Practicing is the only way of leaning the things.
  3. Running in the busy road is not good.
  4. Laughing makes you healthy.

Participle (Definition):-

The “V + ing” form of the verb that acts as an Adjective is known as Participle.

For Example

  1. A dancing girl fell on the stage.
  2. My wife is working Lady.
  3. A running horse is there.
  4. He is a sleeping boy.

The “to + Verb” form of the verb is known as Infinitive.
