4. How do collaborative educational opportunities contribute to a more inclusive environment?

At your table, discuss how these can support a more inclusive environment and capture discussion in the linked Google doc (3 min)

  • Collaboration with a local medical school where their instructors teach our physiology course and host labs
  • Industry-sponsored UG research fellowships and career mentoring from industry professionals for URM with financial need.
  • Offer students to learn more about challenges and opportunities elsewhere and how they can address together
  • Conversations with faculty members allow for insights into how other schools are dealing with challenges, especially post-pandemic

  • Regional and racial diversity in diverse project teams, different academic levels work together
  • Rising BME Scholars focuses on URM students for postdoc/faculty opportunities
  • REU program emphasizes providing opportunities to students who wouldn't otherwise have them (or who would have minimal opportunities).
  • We have summer research programs over the summer for students from other universities that prioritize URM students.
