Player
A freely-available web-based viewer and authoring tool that plays various kinds of Qmedia resources: audio, video, 3D simulations, PowerPoint slides, visualizations, maps, images, web-pages, timelines, discussions, and text.
Dynamic views
The Qmedia player’s views can play any kind of media in any of its panes- both user and author can smoothly and dynamically control the sizes.
Views are linked together, so media like slides and maps support the video
Qmedia types:
Qclips are time-based media, such as video.
Qslides are PPT or images or web-pages.
Qtext is textual material such as transcripts.
Qmaps are interactive Google maps.
Qvis are SHIVA visualizations.
Qclips
Clips are timed media such as video (from YouTube, Vimeo, HTML5 or Kaltura), audio, animations and simulations, and 3D walkthroughs (using Unity player)
Qslides
Slides can be imported from PowerPoint and Google Docs and easily synced up to the main narrative.
Images, both static and with their own ‘Ken-burns’ pans and zooms and fully functional web-pages can be similarly coordinated, including picture-in-picture.
Qtext
Text can be added that follows the narrative, such as an interactive transcript.
A clickable TOC aids navigation through media. Clicking on text also cues up media.
Search has autocomplete based on text’s contents.
Qmaps
Maps can be added that smoothly pan and and zoom to show location(s) that support the narrative.
Maps are live and interactive so users can explore and can have KML overlays to show clickable locations and areas.
Qvis
Highly interactive data-driven visualizations from SHIVA can support the narrative. These include charts, network graphs, and timelines.
Other media views can react to clicks on visualizations and vice versa.
Annotation
Built-in drawing tools makes it easy to add graphical and textual annotation the appear at desired times in the media clip.
A simple note taking tool makes it easy to take time-stamped personal notes for later study or reference.
Discussion
A bridge with the popular (and free) Disqus commenting system makes it easy to enable people to add and read other people’s comment at any point in the video.
Assessment
Built-in assessment tool for asking for student responses such as quizzes
Special spatial and time-based searches allow students to highlight where and when on the clip in response to a question.
Authoring tools
A simple WYSIWYG authoring tool that imports PPT and Google Docs slides.
Has an integrated slide sorter to sync slides, images, maps, visualizations, and transcripts with the media clip providing the main narrative.
Easy to use transcript syncing.
