How did the Empire of Islam grow out of the deserts of Arabia?

Can something come from nothing? Our records show that a gigantic empire arose in the Middle Ages out of the middle of a desert. Reviewing the data makes this seem impossible. I can’t even figure out how people could live in this desert let alone rise out of it to create a powerful empire. Fractures at work or was this somehow actually possible?

Scarce resources led them to become nomads – people who moved often.

They would often camp at an oasis. Later these places became the first towns in the area.

The nomads carried idols of their gods. Eventually they were kept in a shrine in Mecca.
