Activity 1 - Play EAK game:

  • Click this link to play the EAK game for 30 minutes
  • What is the “mysterious language of code” discussed in the game?

Through this worksheet you will play the Erase All Kittens (EAK) game, check your knowledge of HTML code and learn about algorithms. You will need to be in pairs for some of the activities in this workshop.

You can complete this worksheet using Google Slides OR print the worksheet, using pens/pencils.

Worksheet 1

Code & Algorithms

Keywords and terms:

  • HTML (HyperText Markup Language) code – is a language to create and structure documents to be displayed on a web browser
  • Algorithm – a sequence of instructions that are followed to complete a task

Activity 2 - In pairs, match the names and HTML code:

Activity 3 - Algorithms in life

  • An algorithm is a sequence of instructions that are followed to complete a task.

  • Below is an algorithm for making a cup of tea:
    • Boil kettle
    • Get a cup
    • Put a teabag in the cup
    • Pour hot water on the teabag
    • Take the teabag out
    • Add milk and sugar, as required

  • A recipe and a music manuscript are algorithms because they are sequences of instructions that are followed to cook or play music. People use lots of algorithms.

  • Complete the algorithm below to wake up and get ready for school in the morning. The first line has been completed for you:

This resource has been developed by Erase All Kittens for Maker Futures.

It is accessible online as a PDF and viewable Google Slide.

  • Guess what you have you drawn? You really are a cool cat!
    • Get a piece of paper
    • Get a pencil or pen
    • Draw a big circle
    • Draw two smaller circles inside the big circle. Draw one of the circles on the left and the other circle on the right
    • Draw two small triangles on the the top left and right-hand side outside edges of the circle
    • Draw a small triangle in the middle of the big circle
    • Draw a curve on the inside bottom of the big circle

Activity 4 - Drawing algorithm

  • Follow the drawing algorithm below:
