NJVBC History

We have offered a low-cost option for club volleyball for both boys and girls high school players since 2004.

We’re the only club that offers travel volleyball for less than $1100 dollars.

We believe that we are the best option in the tri-state area for either:

  1. The beginner player
  2. The multi-sport athlete

About Paul

  • Coached at Clifton High School, Paramus Catholic, La Jolla Country Day School (San Diego), NJVBC, Side Out Sports, and Dwight Morrow High School
  • Still play beach doubles!
  • Bought the business from my partner/varsity high school coach this past summer.

NJVBC - Is this the right club for me?

NJVBC’s mission is to help our players become the best volleyball players they can be. We are a developmental club. Our travel teams are structured to compete against some of the best clubs in the region. That being said, we are not a club focused on winning. Winning is a byproduct of hard work at practice, as well as execution in competition.

Our goal is to develop players and help them reach their potential. There is no such thing as equal playing time in volleyball, but if you are selected to a travel team, playing time is balanced. If your goal is simply to win at any cost, or you believe that you should be on the court at all times, North Jersey Volleyball Club is not the right club for you.

NJVBC - Cost Effective

I believe we are the most cost-effective club in the state. For the dollars spent, you will see similar, or more, results than other clubs that cost more money.

No, we are not the best club in NJ. But I believe that, per dollar, we produce the most results.

24 Hour Rule

Parents and players, we realize that you may have questions or concerns about playing time, positions, etc.

We have a 24 hour rule in place, which means that we will address your concerns the day after a competition.

It gives everyone time (players, parents, and coaches) to cool off!

Events

All travel teams are guaranteed five one-day events.

We schedule 6 one-day events for all travel teams. Events include tournaments, quad-matches, tri-matches, etc.

We guarantee you 5 events. If one of your six events are cancelled (inclement weather, etc), we will do everything in our power to replace it.

If we can’t replace it, we still got you the 5 promised events! Please do not come to us and complain that everyone got 6 and you only got 5. Tournaments have limited space and fill fast. It is extremely tough to schedule another one if one gets cancelled.

NJVBC - Retuners

NJVBC Travel Team returners are NOT automatically given a travel team spot.

I cannot, in good faith, take a $50 tryout fee from everyone and not give everyone the same equal shot to make the team.

NJVBC - Anti Bullying Policy

We realize that everyone cannot be best friends - but that does not mean that we cannot be positive towards each other.

We all make mistakes. My coaches make mistakes. I make mistakes. How we treat each other through those mistakes is key toward our success. All teams, in all sports, go through highs and lows.

“Anyone can steer the ship when the sea is calm.”

— Publilius Syrus

In my 20 years here, we have had to remove two players from the program before the season ended.

Bullying, harassment, or threats of any sorts (including cyber bullying on social media or via text) will automatically result in removal from NJVBC without a refund. If you aren’t sure, don’t say or send it!

NJVBC - Anti Bullying Policy

Parents, we need your help!

There are times we will all be frustrated at the end of a tournament. We are human, and we will not always play our best all the time!

On the way home from tournaments, keep conversations light and do not harp on your child, their teammates, or their coaches. I understand you all are paying your hard-earned money to be part of our program, but understand that we are teaching all of our players to overcome adversity. Sometimes, we will not sub out a player who is struggling in order to give them the opportunity to overcome.

When a warrior is challenged, a warrior responds! We can teach our athletes to overcome if you let us!

Location Preference Update

We can no longer offer a location preference. If you make a travel team, you may be placed in either Nutley or North Haledon. In order to make the most competitive teams possible, you may be placed at a location inconvenient to you.

You will NOT have the opportunity to switch locations.

If you are no longer interested in trying out, please email me and I will take you off the list.

If you make a travel team in a location that you absolutely cannot attend, you will have the opportunity to move to a practice team. You will have a location choice (Clifton or Wayne) as well as a time slot.

  • 12 players paid 50%, or more, of their dues via fundraisers.
  • Over half of the girls participated in our fundraisers

Tryouts - Varsity Only

North Jersey Volleyball Club is committed to the health and safety of our players. Varsity players, we do not believe that you should be asked to tryout for a club team before, or during, your high school season.

If your season is ongoing due to County or State Playoffs, you will be offered a tryout once your season is completed.

Note that there are two criteria to a delayed tryout:

  • You are a varsity starter, or receive regular minutes (defensive specialist, etc) on varsity. Going in once in a while does not count.
  • Your season must have a chance of going to the state playoffs (your varsity team is over .500, which means you have more wins than losses)
