Using Pixlr to change image backgrounds

Go to pixlr.com/editor
Choose “Create New Image”

Name your new image
Make sure your size is large enough (I use 1024x768)
Mark it to be transparent

Open image as layer
Choose your foreground image (In this case a student headshot)

Choose Wand Tool
Change Tolerance to 40
(play around to see which tolerance level selects the majority of the area around student)
Click Background to select then Ctrl X to delete

Choose the Eraser tool to remove any residual background that the wand didn’t remove.

Open image as layer
Choose background image

Hide student layer (uncheck box)
Under Edit, choose Free Transform to resize the background image
(Using an .svg file works best since they don’t pixelate when resized.)

Recheck the student layer
Choose the Move Tool to move your subject to desired position.
You may also use the Free Transform Tool to resize if necessary.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E to merge all layers
Once layers are merged, you can no longer edit the student.
Save your work!
