The official uniform is:

  • navy blue bottoms (pants, skirts/shorts must be fingertip length)
  • navy blue or light blue polo shirts (no white shirts)
  • dark shoes
  • white or navy socks
  • navy blue sweater, jacket or blazer

Oaklands Elementary Community has a mandatory uniform policy in accordance with Prince George’s County # 600.

The following items are not allowed:

  • white shirts
  • leggings, jeans or sweatpants
  • sleeveless shirts or tank tops
  • hoodies or sweatshirts with logos of any kind

Financial Hardships

Parents/guardians who are not able to purchase the mandatory uniform due to financial hardship must submit a letter of explanation to the principal. The principal and the uniform committee will review the hardship request to determine the assistance needed. Parents/guardians requesting assistance will receive a response within 15 days of the received request.

Exemptions (new students)

Students who are new to PGCPS after the first week of school, will be allowed a grace period of 5 school days to comply with the uniform policy.

Penalty for Uniform Violations

  1. Teacher contacts the parent/guardian and notifies administration of the violation.
  2. Administration contacts the parent/guardian.
  3. Administration contacts the parent/guardian via phone and in writing.
  4. A conference is held with administration and the parent/guardian to discuss the Mandatory Uniform Policy and the consequences of further violations.
  5. The student receives an in-school suspension.
  6. For a sixth violation, a parent/student conference is scheduled with the uniform committee. A final warning is given to the student and parent to apprise them that another violation will result in reassignment to another school. This same information will be forwarded to the parent or guardian in writing.
