COMMUNITY
Indigenous People’s Day
(October 21st via Zoom)
During this day, I helped build a community with the help of Senator at Large Liu and Joshua Formin-Ortiz.
The purpose of this event was to share some history and culture to those who attended. Some of the history included the arrival of Europeans in the Americas as well as the people of the Bay (Ohlone People) and the overall Indigenous community in the United States.
We received good feedback from some of the people that attended and shared the importance of knowing about the Indigenous people since the place we live in has been theirs for centuries.
I also helped during the Fall Club Rush, Spring Club Rush, Sexual Assault Awareness events and volunteered at
Lane Food Distribution in CSM.
In addition, I will be chairing the Leadership Awards on May 6th.
CHANGE
I was a delegate of the Academic Senate, Classified Senate, District Student Council, Transfer Advisory Committee as well as the Student Achievement Award Reception committee.
Being part of these committees helped me understand the way the college works (though not entirely) and helps students. I learned about the ways in which all of these committees work as a team and come up to a conclusion that will then impact or change things on campus.
I was a member of the Housing Initiative. There, we were able to advocate for students housing (specially for international students) and looked for different options on how this could be done. A campus change from this initiative is that housing will be coming in the next five years.
MENTORSHIP
Xitlali
Xitlali has been one of my closest friends since I met her the first day. Her enthusiasm and positive leadership was something I saw the very first moment I met her. We have shared so many things together (including lunch from lol) . One of the things I admire the most about her is the way in which she always brings a smile wherever she goes and enjoys the things she does. She has been a great partner. If it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure how this year would have gone. Thank you Madame!
Brittney
Brittney has taught me how that I can do anything I set my mind to. Her words of encouragement and advice when needed have always helped me move forward. She is someone I can count on. Something I admire about her is how caring and friendly she is.Thank you Brittney!
Michiko
Michiko has been one of the people I have admired the most since the first time I saw her at an event in 2019 and seeing her in previous Senate events, even though I did not know her back then. Being able to work with her and share laughs has been one of the most incredible things that has happened to me. She has shown me how to be a leader and be compassionate at the same time. Her positive attitude and leadership skills is something I really admire about her. Hermana mayor, thank you!

LEADERSHIP (cont.)
I utilized this skill when making decisions and coming up to conclusions when needed during meetings or things I needed to take action on.
My inner confidence and self-motivation allowed me to join Senate and be part of something I thought I would never be part of.
This skill allowed me to find the positive side on things even if sometimes I was not fully sure or optimistic. I’ve always tried to have a positive attitude and pass it to others.
This skill has helped me be who I am and be myself on the things I believe in , even if others might not agree with me.
I don’t like commanding people, instead I utilize this skill to encourage and lead others. This skill has given me a sense of leadership while being something I enjoy.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
My overall take-away from being part of Student Senate was how everyone supports each other and become close to each other. It becomes like a family and a community!
Thanks for letting me be part of this amazing team and giving me something to remember for the rest of my life!
THANK YOU!!!
