Stokes County Schools

Title I Overview

Provides financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families to ensure all children meet challenging state academic standards.

  • Legislation: Part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  • Purpose: To ensure ALL children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain high-quality education and reach proficiency on state achievement standards.
  • Determination: Schools are determined by the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch.

The following Stokes County schools are eligible to receive Title I funding:

This program is designed to support LEAs/PSUs and private schools in:

  • Recruiting and preparing teachers
  • Training and development
  • Developing district leaders

Student Support & Academic Enrichment

Aims to improve achievement by increasing capacity of SEAs, LEAs, and local communities to:

  • Provide access to a well-rounded education
  • Improve school conditions for student learning
  • Enhance technology use for academic achievement and digital literacy

The district-wide program goals focus on increasing student achievement by engaging parents and stakeholders to help ALL students meet high standards.

  • Federal Funds for educational services and professional development
  • Lead Instructional Teachers, teacher assistants, and support staff
  • Funded Teachers to enhance instruction and reduce class sizes
  • Parent Involvement/Engagement Programs and Workshops
  • Parent/Family Resource Rooms with free resources
  • During the day and after school tutoring options

Title 1 and Parent Engagement

It is the law:

Title I requires that parents are to be “afforded substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.” All parents of eligible Title I children must be provided the opportunity to provide feedback and input into and on Title I budgets, plans, and compacts. This must be a partnership between the school and the families to support student academic success.

Title 1 and Parent Engagement

Schools are required to maintain individualized parent/teacher/school compacts for every student, maintain meeting records, and keep signed copies.

A School–Parent Compact is a written agreement that:

  • Outlines activities for parents, staff, and students to build a partnership helping children achieve high academic standards.
  • Provides opportunities for input on the compact in the Spring and Fall of each year.
  • Ensures parent input is reviewed during the creation of the final 2026-2027 Compact.

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Stokes County Schools is CEP for Grades K-8

CEP is a non-pricing meal service option for schools in low-income areas. It allows high-poverty schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications.

Reimbursement is based on the percentage of students eligible for free meals through programs like SNAP and TANF.

  • A minimum of 90% of the 1% will be distributed directly to schools.
  • Funds are to be utilized at the school level.
