PicklUp solves the problem that OSU students have no simple, reliable way to track in-person pickleball matches or compare skill levels. Current methods—group chats, memory, or spreadsheets—are inconsistent and don’t support fair competition. PicklUp provides an easy system to log matches, generate Elo-style ratings, and view OSU-only leaderboards
Our Idea
At Ohio State, pickleball is booming — but students don’t have a simple, reliable way to find games or match up fairly. Right now, people rely on group chats, word of mouth, or just showing up at courts hoping to play. That wastes time, creates uneven matchups, and leaves players frustrated.
PicklUp changes that. We’ve built an app that connects OSU students to available pickleball games across campus and introduces a ranked system that makes competition fun, fair, and motivating.
In short: PicklUp transforms casual campus pickleball into a structured, competitive, and social experience. It saves time, ensures fair matchups, and builds a thriving OSU pickleball community — all through one simple app.
What Issue Does This Solve?
PicklUp solves the problem that OSU students have no unified, reliable way to find opponents of similar skill or connect with other players across campus pickleball locations. Right now, students rely on group chats, random walk-ins, or guesswork to find games, which often leads to mismatched skill levels and wasted time. By providing Elo-style ratings and a campus-wide directory of players at every pickleball spot, PicklUp makes it easy for competitors to discover evenly matched opponents, coordinate games, and build a more organized and enjoyable playing experience at Ohio State.

Play some Pickleball! Your skill is tracked with an Elo rating system, so you can see exactly how you stack up against the competition on the leaderboard.

An Elo rating assigns each player a score that adjusts based on who they beat (using built-in equation)
PicklUp lets users create singles or doubles lobbies with a location, skill range, and optional privacy.

The My Matches page shows all the games you’ve played or are scheduled to play. You can see past results, upcoming matches, scores, opponents, locations, and your rating changes.
The Leaderboard page displays the top players on campus, ranked by their Elo ratings. You can filter by skill level, location, or match type, and quickly see who’s leading in singles or doubles.

The create lobbies page lets you set up a new match for singles or doubles. You can choose the location, specify a skill range, and set the lobby as public or private
