What is Cub Scouting?

  • Year-Round, Family-Friendly program led by adult volunteers and designed for boys and girls in Grades K through 5 (ages 5-11)�

Introduction to Cub Scouting

  • Cub Scouts is a program of Scouting America for boys and girls in Grades K-5

  • We meet monthly in Dens – groups of about 6-10 kids of same age and grade level

  • We also meet monthly as a Pack – where all the Dens get together at the same time

  • Is it FUN? YES!!

What is the council?

  • An organization powered by Scouting America professionals to provide shared resources and experiences for its packs

  • A geographical unit of Scouting America packs

  • The council provides resources and support during recruitment, education around events like Pinewood Derby, and some outdoor experiences for Cub Scouting

What is the pack?

  • An organization powered by volunteers to implement the scouting experience in their community.

  • Pack meetings and pack events are organized for all dens (grade levels). Pack meetings are typically themed and led by the cubmaster.�
  • Pack Events:
    • Camping at Mayflower Council sites (Nobscot, Resolute, …)
    • Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, Rocket Launch
    • Museums, Overnights, Sports Events, Rock Climbing, First Responders Visits, Service Events

and more!

What is a den?

  • Age or grade-based units that make up the pack. Usually 6 to 10 scouts per den, same age and grade

  • Meet usually once per month, but each den determines exact schedule for itself

  • Den meetings led by den leader or parents in the den

  • Den Leader – organizes, submits achievements

  • Dens learn to work together in a group to do activities that will help them earn their rank badge throughout the year - and they have fun!

Parental Involvement

  • Cub Scouting is hands on.
  • It offers you a fantastic way to interact with your kids that you wouldn’t otherwise.
  • Our expectation is that scouting is a family event, run by volunteers, and we need every family to participate in order to be successful for your kids.
  • Find a way to incorporate your hobbies, interests, connections into your child’s scouting experience.
  • It’s gratifying and fun to lead kids at this age.
