SURVEY DESIGN CHANGES

The following modifications were made to the surveys for the current year:

  • Parent Survey
    • One new questions with a follow up asking parents how their experience has varied if they have multiple children and in which areas
  • Staff Survey
    • Minor syntax changes only
  • Student Surveys
    • Minor syntax changes only

Executive Summary

Overarching goal of maintaining survey format consistency to provide longitudinal data, allowing for better identification of trends and changes in perception.

RESPONSE RATES

* Response rate is based on all guardians, but some families may submit only one response for the household. As such, a good survey response rate ranges between 15% and 30%; an excellent response rate is 50% or higher.

Executive Summary

8% lower than last year, but still meets goals set for response rates*

38% lower than last year

SURVEY ANALYSIS

  • Analysis of data across previous 5 years
    • Note – question wording and numbering have had minor variations year over year; data has been aligned to the most current version of the question. Where a question was previously asked in aggregate and subsequently broken into various components, aggregate value was used across every category.
  • Data presented visually to make trends more easily apparent, using “agree” and “strongly agree” values (combined) as comparative metric
  • Presentation of data is grouped by founding principle across all populations to provide visibility to how perception varies between each group on similar metrics

Note, this presentation approach is a change from previous years, in which data values for agree (+ strongly agree) and disagree (+strongly disagree) were presented in a table format and grouped by survey population. While this provided a greater level of detail, it was more difficult to consume and understand trends.

Summary of Comments, Parent and Staff

  • Parent Comment Summary
    • Parents have generally positive comments surrounding the school experience and their students’ teachers.
    • Areas with constructive feedback include consistency across classrooms and the volume of homework.
    • Survey data supports these comments as homework is trending up in elementary.
  • Staff Comment Summary
    • Staff comments are generally positive with an emphasis on aligning the staff and community understanding of our founding principles for deeper understanding and commitment

Parents have the opportunity to provide open ended responses to two questions. Staff have several additional opportunities. All Staff responses are shared with administration.

Alignment Opportunities & Recommendations

  • Homework
  • Grading turn-around time
  • Feelings of safety & consistency in discipline
  • Student’s sense of community

44 of 47

ACADEMIC STANDARDS, CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

  • Continued concerns around homework from students and parents.

Most students are doing about an hour of homework (or less) per night, and about 75% of Parents feel the homework is adding value.

    • Recommend LAAC add survey question to 2025-2026 Parent Survey for better visibility to how much time students are spending on homework (to compare to student's self-reporting).
    • Recommend LAGB charge administration with increasing communication to educate parents and students on techniques for managing homework load, such as time management and focus techniques, and increase study hall opportunities with lower teacher to student ratios to provide more time for students to utilize academic support.
  • Homework grading

Dissatisfaction with grade turn around time, particularly within Social Studies and Math.

    • Recommend LAGB collaborate with administration on updates to the parent/student and staff handbooks regarding best practices and guidelines for returning turned-in-on-time graded assignments (homework) and assessments/projects.

`

Alignment Opportunities

45 of 47

ENVIRONMENT & OPERATIONS

  • Improve feelings of safety and consistency in discipline

New Security and Operations Manager position planned for 2025-26 school year, who will develop relationships with the Littleton Academy community and have responsibility for keeping the school safe

    • Recommend LAGB charge administration to prioritize visibility and consistency in expectations and consequences for both classroom norms and school-wide code of conduct violations.
  • Foster sense of community and camaraderie between students

Larger than expected “neutral” response on questions related to the perception of other student’s behavior (following rules, respect between teachers and students, supporting each other)

    • LAAC advises administration to continue student panel discussion with a focus on understanding student survey data surrounding trusted adults, student-student interactions, and what it would take for students to "recommend Littleton Academy to a friend." Additionally, LAAC recommends sorting the student panel by ages as appropriate to encourage open discussion.
    • Recommend LAGB charge administration with increasing communication to educate students and parents on techniques for conflict resolution to better address student to student issues.

Alignment Opportunities

46 of 47

SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Many positives in the data - throughout the survey data, responses had longitudinal stability, and there were generally a small number of detractors; opportunities for improvement within the neutral response group to become promoters.
  • Further data is needed regarding time spent on homework; this was a common topic in the parent survey comments and would likely benefit from educational communication around homework management.
  • Educational communication to students and parents around Littleton Academy’s expectations for conduct and conflict resolution strategies would likely be beneficial.
  • These surveys continue to be an important tool for providing a composite narrative about LA’s climate, culture, experiences, and alignment with and fidelity to Littleton Academy's Mission Statement and Founding Principles
