Course Design with Accessibility in Mind

Making All Learners Feel At Home

Our five-module asynchronous course, "Course Design with Accessibility in Mind," supports instructors in developing inclusive Canvas courses that ensure all learners feel welcome. Participants learn to build Canvas courses, from planning their structure to creating accessible content. The course is deployed directly within a Canvas instance, where Canvas admins can enroll instructors. These instructors can then deliver the course asynchronously, utilizing features like auto-graded quizzes, or they can adapt the course to their institution's specific requirements as well as utilize the included teacher-graded assessments and discussion boards.

But, wait! What is it?!

Participants will learn how to:

  • Implement instructional design best practices, including designing with mobile in mind.
  • Identify the most common accessibility challenges and solutions.
  • Apply UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles.
  • Utilize strategies for creating a community of learners and adding humanization elements.

Course Content

The course content aligns with Canvas Course Evaluation Checklist and includes information on accessibility, headings and styles, hyperlinks, captioning, tables, alt text, color & contrast, responsive design, copyright, humanizing learning, UDL (Universal Design for Learning), etc. Check out the Detailed Course Objectives for all the goodness.
