Crust

  • The average temperature the Earth’s crust is at is around 14 °C.
  • The average density of the crust is around 2.83 grams per cubic centimeter.
  • The crust is about 5 miles thick from the bottom of the oceans, and about 25 miles from the continents on the surface.
  • The Earth’s crust is composed mainly of oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
  • The nutrients that are found within the Earth’s crust are what allows plants to live, therefore allowing us to survive.

Secret Ingredient: The first person to be considered a homo sapien because if they’d hadn’t walked on the Earth then none of us would exist!

Mantle

Temperature

The mantle’s temperature ranges from 1000°celsius to 3700°celsius

Density

The upper mantle has a density of 3.4 while the lower mantle has a density of 4.4

Thickness

The thickness of the upper mantle is 720 km while the lower is 2171 km

Composition

The mantle is made up 44.8% oxygen 21.5% silicon 22.8% magnesium. Their are also lots of other things like iron.

The mantle IS LIKE A Waiter’s hands under a serving tray full of delicious Food! The Mantle/waiter’s hands is holding it (the crust full of people and landforms) and moving as it is delivered just like movement in the mantle moves the crust above it.

Outer Core

Temperature

The temperature of the outer core is 4400 °C.

Density

The outer core has a density of 9.9

Thickness

The outer core is 2259 km thick.

Composition

The outer core is liquid and mainly made of metal like iron and nickel.

Picture

THe magnetic field is in the outer core which helps out Earth.

DID YOU KNOW ?

If the outer core was a food, it would be the pizza sauce because it is the liquid part of the pizza.

Inner Core

  • The temperature of the inner core is 5,430 °C

  • The inner core’s density is about 13.0 kg/L (I don’t know why it is in liquid units even though it’s solid!)
  • The inner core is about 776.714 miles thick
  • The inner core, unlike the outer, is completely solid iron and nickel, due to the extreme pressure

Secret Ingredient: The inner core is the entire reason that the magnetic fields that protect the Earth even exists
